Jets Playoff Odds: Losing Streak Pushes New York Postseason Hopes to the Brink

A team that appeared on the rise has settled into more of the same following a disappointing — but not unexpected — Thursday Night Football defeat. The New York Jets, who just a month ago were in the driver’s seat for an AFC playoff spot, are now below .500 and a virtual lock to miss the playoffs.

DraftKings now has the Jets at -1400 to miss the postseason, shorter odds than the punching bag Green Bay Packers (-1200).

Jets Playoff Odds: Technically Not Eliminated … Yet

At this point, Jets fans are certain what they have in quarterback Zach WilsonThough his 317 yards passing in Week 15 lent some optimism that Wilson could turn in a good performance against the Jaguars, Wilson was booed off the field before being benched for career practice squad quarterback Chris Streveler.

And while Streveler was better than Wilson, the Jets failed to find the end zone even once in a 19-3 defeat. The loss was the Jets’ fourth in a row, pushing them to 7-8.

So now the Jets are staring at yet another season out of the playoffs despite starting 7-4 and having some optimism with Mike White under center. White has missed two games and has not been confirmed in or out for Week 17 against the Settle Seahawks.

Mathematically, the Jets are not quite eliminated with two weeks to go, as they are still within 1.5 games of the sixth and seventh seeds in the AFC. However, that means they will have to win out and jump at least three of the Los Angeles Chargers, Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots and whichever team finishes second in the AFC South (Jaguars or Tennessee Titans are separated by half a game for division lead). Here are the playoff odds for those five teams as of Friday:

Neither of the Jets’ final two games are particularly easy. After they play at Seattle in Week 17, they are at Miami to close out the regular season. Even if White is able to suit up, it seems this four-game losing streak has sunk New York’s playoff chances.

Even though things look bleak for the Jets, there are still opportunities to make a lot of money on the AFC playoff race.
