Michael Gallup Fantasy Football News: Cowboys Receiver Takes Significant Step in His Injury Recovery

Dallas Cowboys receiver Michael Gallup will not be available in the team’s Week 1 matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals, but his return from injury appears to be right around the corner.

Gallup has been rehabbing all offseason from a torn ACL. He’s apparently hitting all of his target dates and will potentially be returning before too long.

Per The Athletic’s Jon Machota, Gallup participated in team drills for the first time since he suffered the ACL injury. The Cowboys also didn’t put the receiver on the PUP list to start the season, meaning he could still return within the first four weeks of the season.

Michael Gallup Fantasy Football Ranking

Per our Stokastic fantasy football cheat sheet, Gallup currently ranks as the #39 receiver on our list, and he could be on the rise given the loss of teammate Amari Cooper in the offseason.

“We just don’t want to do anything that would put him in some kind of category that would limit us from getting him in the first game,” Jones said, per Bobby Belt of 105.3 The Fan after opting against placing the receiver on the PUP list.

Gallup is entering just his age-26 season. His best year as a pro came in 2019, when he caught 66 passes for 1,107 yards and six touchdowns.

Even though Gallup declined slightly after that career year, his familiarity with quarterback Dan Prescott may make him a top target once again in 2022. That, along with his swift injury recovery, should make Gallup in play for the fantasy football season.

“If this was the Super Bowl, Gallup would be lining up and playing. If (our game Week 1) against Tampa were the Super Bowl, he’d be lining up and playing,” Jones said Tuesday during his weekly appearance on “Shan and RJ”. “So, we’re going to be cautious – or not cautious, but conservative – with him. He won’t be out there more than likely against Tampa, but if it were the Super Bowl he’d be playing. He’s that ready.”
