2022 Presidents Cup Betting Odds: Internationals Come in as Historic Underdogs to Pull Off the Upset

The U.S. President’s Cup Team is rolling out its usual stacked lineup for this weekend’s event. The International team really has their work cut out for them, at least if you look at their lineup on paper.

The U.S. team includes five of the top-10 players in the official world golf rankings. The Internationals do not have one player with that same standing after Australia’s Cameron Smith joined LIV Golf and lost his eligibility to play in the event.

“I think it’s quite clear that we’re the underdogs,” International team captain Trevor Immelman said to ESPN. “We generally have been in this competition over the years so it’s a tag that we’re used to.”

Not only is Immelman right that his team is a huge underdog, but it would go down in history as one of the biggest upset wins if they’re somehow able to hoist the Presidents Cup Trophy at Quail Hollow Club this weekend.

If the International Team was able to pull off the upset, it would be as big of a betting underdog win as Buster Douglas defeating Mike Tyson in 1990, or Joe Namath’s infamous victory in Super Bowl III when the New York Jets defeated the Baltimore Colts.

Still, the Unites States team knows that anything is possible in just four short days of golf.

“Just because you’re the favorite they don’t give you any extra shots,” U.S. team star Scottie Scheffler said. “We don’t start 1-up. There’s a lot of talented players on the PGA Tour. It’s a very deep tour, and the internationals obviously have a lot of talent on their side, as well.”

The Presidents Cup kicks off on Thursday morning.
