The Quick Answer

What Changed In The Fee Rules
Two changelog entries from the same August week reset what a stacked ticket costs. On August 20, 2026, Kalshi's API changelog said that "combo markets created after 11:59 PM ET on August 19, 2026 that are composed entirely of independent NFL components will have no maker fee." Two days later the changelog added a quoter fee swap, switched on at 11:59 PM ET on Friday, August 21: if a quoting market maker executes against an order that has rested on the book for less than five seconds, the quoter is charged the maker fee and the party whose order was resting is charged the taker fee. Maker is the side that posted and waited. Taker is the side that came in and hit it, and it is the more expensive side.
The product those rules govern showed up quietly. Kalshi launched same-game stacking on September 29, 2025, ahead of a Monday Night Football doubleheader, with no announcement, and it was first surfaced publicly by a former Kalshi head of operations posting on X (Covers.com, September 30, 2025). By September 1, 2026 the feature covered both same-game and multi-game combos and was limited to professional football, professional basketball and mention markets (TheLines.com).
Now the seam. A touchdown lotto is several scorers in one game. Nothing in the research says whether two touchdown scorers from the same game count as "independent NFL components," and that single word decides how your ticket gets charged. Nobody has answered it in public.
The Ticket May Never Fill
You open the combo builder "either from the page of any eligible event or from the live tab by selecting the sports category and then the combo builder," per Kalshi's help center, last updated June 20, 2026. The price you then see is not posted by Kalshi. It comes out of a request for quote: you name a market and a size, the request goes out to all market makers, they answer with yes and no prices for the full size, you take one side of the best-priced quote, and anything that times out goes onto the public book (Kalshi API documentation, September 8, 2026).
Here is the part that matters if you are spending money. Kalshi's own help center says: "Fills are not guaranteed. If no market participant responds to the RFQ with a quote, the combo order will not fill." Quoted prices can also move between the moment you look at them and the moment you try to execute.
If you have only ever used a betting slip that accepts or rejects on the spot, that is the unfamiliar part. And it cuts hardest on exactly this kind of ticket. The weirder your legs, the fewer people on the other end have a reason to answer you at all.
What Is Still In Doubt
On the field, the leg a lot of readers would most want in the Patriots opener is the one nobody can price. Asked about Henderson's ankle on September 7, 2026, two days before the Seahawks game, Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel said: "We'll see how he feels today. We'll see if he can do anything. He's been working extremely hard to come back." That is not a status. That is a shrug with a clipboard.
On the exchange, your request is not as anonymous as you might assume. Independent researcher Andrew Courtney documented on March 17, 2026 that Kalshi's quote-request messages carry a visible creator ID, a 64-character scrambled string tied to the requester. "If the same individual makes another request, the responder can tell it's the same counterparty, but not who it is," he wrote. His analysis notes that logging those requests "obviously allows for some degree of trader profiling," and that this is not insider access: "This is publicly available information via the API. It is not reserved for favored parties."
So fire off ten lotto requests in a night and you are building a record of yourself that the people quoting you can read. You cannot see theirs.
About The Numbers
A contract settles at one dollar if the outcome happens and at nothing if it does not, so a price of 12 cents prices that outcome at about a 12 percent chance.
