USA-Mexico World Baseball Classic Odds & Best Bet

The World Baseball Classic is beginning to heat up and many baseball fans across the country are amped up for the USA-Mexico matchup on Sunday night. With the gambling community looking for some USA-Mexico bets, let’s take a look at the latest odds & best bets for the game.

USA-Mexico Betting Odds & Best Bet

Per DraftKings Sportsbook, Team USA is a -350 favorite over Mexico (+290). The run line is set at USA -2.5 (-105), with the over/under set at 10.

Team USA flexed their muscle in a 6-2 win over Great Britain to begin their World Baseball Classic journey on Saturday night. They fell behind 1-0 but quickly rebounded, with the big blow coming from a Kyle Schwarber 3-run home run. Now, the Americans will turn to right-hander Nick Martinez to take the ball against Mexico. The veteran Padres starter turned in mediocre numbers by every measure last year, going 4-4 with a 3.47 ERA in 47 appearances and 10 starts.

“It’s incredibly special for me to wear this uniform,” Martinez said, per the MLB website. “With my family coming from Cuba, coming over here looking for opportunity … it’s incredibly humbling, and it’s a great honor.”

While the Mexico team simply does not tout the same talent as the U.S. side, they still have a solid lineup centered around big-leaguers Randy Arozarena and Alex Verdugo and should be able to get some good swings in against a United States team that does not have the same talent in their rotation as they do in the batting order.

Mexico lost its first game in Group C play, falling 5-4 in an extra-inning thriller against Columbia on Saturday. They will now put their faith in left-hander Patrick Sandoval to try to get outs against the potent USA lineup. Sandoval, a member of the Los Angeles Angels, has pitched to an impressive 3.17 ERA in his four-year MLB career. The 25-year-old compiled a 6-9 record with a 2.91 ERA in the 2022 season, but his 34.0% hard-hit rate puts him in the bottom half of MLB starters. Sandoval’s expected ERA of 3.91 would indicate he benefitted from a bit of luck throughout the season.

Look for the Hall of Fame-type talent of Mike Trout, Mookie Betts, Nolan Arenado, etc. to crack through Sandoval in the early going of the game, but the -2.5 runs may be a bit too tall of a number for bettors to feel comfortable with. Instead, the over 10 runs has value given the depth in both lineups along with the pitching deficiencies.

The USA-Mexico game should provide fans with plenty of fireworks, making the over a strong play in this one.
