The Quick Answer
Two Underdog NFL picks for Thursday Night Football, October 22, Patriots at Bears (8:15 p.m. ET): TreVeyon Henderson (NE) Higher 3.95 fantasy points and Colston Loveland (CHI) Higher 7.95 fantasy points. Eric called both before kickoff; the Bears won 30-24, Loveland cashed and Henderson did not.
The card came off Sunday's and Monday's winners, and the two plays were about workload. Henderson's was a bet that New England would keep feeding a back it trusts more than Rhamondre Stevenson (NE), even hobbled. Loveland's was a bet that Caleb Williams (CHI), back from the hamstring, would throw to his tight end the way he did on Sunday.
The Picks: Thursday Night Football, October 22
| Player | Stat | Line | Call | Result |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| TreVeyon Henderson (NE) | Fantasy points | 3.95 | Higher | Did not cash: 3 carries, 9 yards, no catches |
| Colston Loveland (CHI) | Fantasy points | 7.95 | Higher | Cashed: 7 catches, 69 yards, a touchdown |
TreVeyon Henderson Higher 3.95 Fantasy Points
Eric's read: Henderson played through a high ankle sprain last week and still got about a quarter of the snaps, and when healthy he has more juice than Stevenson. The number sat low because nobody expected an even split, and Henderson had the late fumble against the Jets in Week 6 that made that win tighter than it needed to be. Eric's case was that Stevenson had been poor enough that it did not matter: Henderson would get his set amount of work, and against a Bears defense he called putrid, four fantasy points looked like a median outcome.
What happened: New England threw. Drake Maye (NE) went 24 of 31 for 321 yards and two touchdowns and ran one in himself, Stevenson caught five passes for 93 yards and a score, and Henderson got three carries for nine yards with no targets, per ESPN's box score. Under the line.
Colston Loveland Higher 7.95 Fantasy Points
Eric's read: Caleb Williams was back, the total was high, and whatever Chicago showed early in the season, they were going to feed Loveland. New England had star corner Christian Gonzalez back but was still short on secondary depth, and with Loveland at 92, 80 and 80 percent of the tight-end snaps the last three weeks, Eric said there was no way he belonged under nine fantasy points, let alone eight.
What happened: Loveland led the Bears with 12 targets and caught seven for 69 yards and a touchdown, per ESPN's box score, in a 30-24 Chicago win. Luther Burden III (CHI) had the big night, four catches for 130 yards and a score, and Williams threw for 308. Over the line by a wide margin.
