The Quick Answer
Two Underdog NFL picks today for Broncos-Chiefs: Bo Nix (DEN) Higher 16.45 fantasy points and Kenneth Walker III (KC) Lower 20 receiving yards. Both are volume reads on the same idea, that this game gets played through Denver's arms and Kansas City's legs. The reasoning, the video and the current Underdog offer with code OS1 are below.
Week 1 closes at Arrowhead Stadium, 8:15 p.m. ET on ESPN and ABC, with the Denver Broncos in Kansas City for Monday Night Football. Both of my Underdog Fantasy plays tonight come off the same question: which side of this game actually gets the ball in the air. The answer, on the numbers below, is Denver's, and that is what shapes both cards. The one I keep coming back to is the quarterback, because the reason it works is sitting in a Kansas City roster hole nobody has plugged yet.
The Picks: Broncos At Chiefs, Monday, September 14

| Kenneth Walker III (KC) | Receiving yards | 20 | Lower |
Bo Nix Higher 16.45 Fantasy Points
Nix has faced Steve Spagnuolo's Kansas City defense four times and has never been rattled by it, and his worst night in the series was still a Denver win. Across those four games he is 98-for-134 for 1,013 yards with seven touchdowns and one interception, which is a 108.8 passer rating, and Denver won three of them. He has also carried it 22 times for 92 yards and a score in the series, which is the part of his game the number keeps underrating: he is more mobile than he gets credit for, and those yards count.
What is different in 2026 is the defense on the other side. Trent McDuffie, Jaylen Watson and Bryan Cook are all off the Kansas City roster, and that is not depth leaving, that is three names out of the secondary Denver will not see tonight. The corner room behind them now reads Kristian Fulton (KC), L'Jarius Sneed (KC), Nohl Williams (KC) and rookie Mansoor Delane (KC), with Jaden Hicks (KC) and Chamarri Conner (KC) at safety, and they draw a Denver receiving corps that added Jaylen Waddle (DEN) to Courtland Sutton (DEN) on the outside, with Pat Bryant (DEN) coming off a strong preseason. Marvin Mims Jr. (DEN) and Evan Engram (DEN) are on the roster too, and I like both more than their usage under Sean Payton has suggested.
The honest risk is that a fantasy-points line rides on touchdowns, not just yards, and two of those four games were quiet ones: 295 yards with zero scores last November, and a 182-yard night in December. If tonight turns into one of those, 16.45 is live. My answer is that both of those games came against a secondary Kansas City has since taken apart, and Denver's receiving room does not look the way it did in either of them.
Put a proven arm, a deep set of targets and a rebuilt secondary together and I am well north of a sub-16.5 number, even on the road at Arrowhead. Before you enter it, see where the sportsbooks hang Nix's passing number on OddsShopper's live odds screen: the live NFL passing yards odds page puts every major book's line side by side, the same odds comparison the NFL Underdog picks strategy guide walks through.
Kenneth Walker III Lower 20 Receiving Yards
Walker is the new toy in the Kansas City offense and he fills a real hole, because this team needed a rushing component. That is the job. Route work is a different job, and the four-year record says he has never held it: across 59 games in Seattle he caught 133 passes for 1,005 yards, which is 17.0 receiving yards per game by the ESPN season totals, three yards a game under tonight's number. His best receiving season was 299 yards, and one 21-yard catch clears this line by itself, so the whole bet is whether Kansas City ever puts him in position for it. He was a lead back on a Super Bowl winner, 27 carries for 135 yards in the 29-13 win over New England in February, and the passing-game usage still never came.
Kansas City is not the place it suddenly arrives. Rookie Emmett Johnson (KC) was a standout receiver out of the backfield in his final year at Nebraska, and catching passes is the specific thing third-string back Brashard Smith (KC) does best. Andy Reid has two backs whose calling card is the route work, and no reason to invent a third in Week 1. These are two separate reads, not a correlated pair, and this one stands on usage alone. A career 17.0-yard average, a crowded backfield and a brand-new playbook is the whole case for the Lower. If the scoring is new to you, player props betting explained covers how a line like this gets built and settled, and the live NFL receiving yards odds board shows what the books think of the same number.
