The Quick Answer
Two Underdog NFL picks for Monday Night Football, October 19, Commanders at 49ers (8:15 p.m. ET): Rachaad White (WAS) Higher 9.75 fantasy points and Brock Purdy (SF) Higher 20.5 completions. One is a volume play against an injured defense, the other came out of a simulator when I could not find a 49ers play on my own.
The Washington half of my Underdog Fantasy card wrote itself. Jacory Croskey-Merritt (WAS) is out, Jeremy McNichols (WAS) is on injured reserve, and that leaves Rachaad White as the lead back against a 49ers defense missing Nick Bosa (SF), Marques Sigle (SF) and Dre Greenlaw (SF). The San Francisco half was the problem. The 49ers are 5-0 and have not needed Brock Purdy to throw much, so nothing on his side of the board jumped out until I ran the game through a simulator and one number did. That number, and the secondary it was pointed at, is the second pick.
The Picks: Monday Night Football, October 19
| Player | Stat | Line | Call |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rachaad White (WAS) | Fantasy points | 9.75 | Higher |
| Brock Purdy (SF) | Passing completions | 20.5 | Higher |
Rachaad White Higher 9.75 Fantasy Points
White is the lead back for the Commanders for the time being, and a lead back should not finish under 10 fantasy points, even against an undefeated San Francisco team. Croskey-Merritt, who had carried the ball at least nine times in all five Washington games, is out, and McNichols went on injured reserve Sunday, per ESPN. That leaves White carrying the backfield, with Austin Ekeler (WAS) and Craig Reynolds (WAS) the other healthy backs on the roster.
Speaking of the Niners, they are the often-injured Niners, and Monday is no exception. Bosa is out, safety Sigle is out and linebacker Greenlaw is suspended, per ESPN's roster report, which makes this defense far more in question than normal. White has been slightly negative in EPA per rush this season, and I am not going to pretend otherwise. The volume should be there, and volume is king. Give him a goal-line carry or two and a couple of passes along the way and he should be eclipsing this number a majority of the time.
| Week | Opponent | Carries | Rush yds | Rec | Rec yds | TD |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | at PHI | 7 | 22 | 2 | 5 | 0 |
| 2 | at DAL | 7 | 43 | 6 | 40 | 0 |
| 3 | vs SEA | 8 | 35 | 1 | 6 | 1 |
| 5 | vs NYG | 7 | 18 | 1 | 2 | 0 |
Rachaad White's 2026 game log, per ESPN. He did not appear in the Week 4 box score against Indianapolis.
He has already shown what the number looks like on a part-time workload. In Week 2 at Dallas he turned seven carries into 43 yards and caught all six of his targets for 40 more, and in Week 3 against Seattle he ran eight times for 35 yards and scored on a catch, per ESPN's game logs. Both of those games clear 9.75 in Underdog's half-PPR scoring (11.3 and 10.6 points), and both came while Croskey-Merritt was handling the bulk of the carries. The quiet games, Week 1 at Philadelphia and Week 5 against the Giants, are the risk: 27 and 20 scrimmage yards on seven carries apiece, with the touches never arriving. The workload argument is that those seven-carry nights are gone with Croskey-Merritt sidelined.

Brock Purdy Higher 20.5 Completions
I was having a devil of a time finding a San Francisco pairing for this game, so I recruited the Ask the Sims tool over at Stokastic to help me out. A quick search of the top plays for this game yielded some interesting Purdy results, with his completions sticking out like a sore thumb. In 57.4% of those simulations he clears 21 completions against this Washington secondary, which ranks out as one of the stone-cold worst in football. That makes this a solid pairing for the card.
The Washington half of that case is in the box scores. Here is what each Commanders opponent did through the air this season.
| Week | Commanders opponent | Opp. completions | Opp. attempts | Opp. pass yds |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | at PHI | 14 | 25 | 182 |
| 2 | at DAL | 26 | 31 | 266 |
| 3 | vs SEA | 32 | 46 | 393 |
| 4 | vs IND | 19 | 34 | 129 |
| 5 | vs NYG | 33 | 54 | 305 |
Commanders pass defense by game, 2026, per ESPN box scores.
Opposing quarterbacks have completed 124 of 190 passes against Washington, a 65% clip on heavy volume, and three of the five opponents cleared this line with room to spare: Dallas completed 26, Seattle 32 and the Giants 33. Philadelphia (14 of 25) and Indianapolis (19 of 34) did not.
The San Francisco half is the honest risk, and it is the reason the line is this low. Purdy has been over this number once in five games.
| Week | 49ers opponent | Purdy completions | Attempts |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | at LAR | 25 | 34 |
| 2 | at MIA | 20 | 22 |
| 3 | vs ARI | 15 | 27 |
| 4 | vs DEN | 19 | 30 |
| 5 | vs SEA | 19 | 29 |
Brock Purdy's 2026 completions by game, per ESPN. All five were wins.
The 49ers have won every game and have not needed him to throw 35 times. Week 2 in Miami shows the risk and the ceiling at once: 20 of 22, efficient enough to clear this line easily if San Francisco had thrown 10 more times. Here is the honest gap. At his 28.4-attempt average, a 69% completion rate gets him to about 20, which is under the line. The pick needs roughly three extra throws, and that is where the Washington table comes back in: the Commanders have faced 38 pass attempts a game, the heaviest volume in either team's logs, because teams keep throwing on them when it works. Three extra throws against this secondary is the whole bet, and the simulations priced it at better than a coin flip.
