No. 1 Texas hasn't left Austin yet.
Three games, three wins, all at home. On Saturday the Longhorns walk into Neyland Stadium in front of more than 100,000 people, against a Tennessee offensive line that brought back five starters and has run over everyone in its way.
Texas opened as a 7-point favorite and the money has pushed it to 5.5. I think the market is right to move, and I don't think it has moved far enough. Before I tell you where I landed, tell me how you see it.

Tennessee wins or loses by 5 or fewer
53% market chance · Tennessee +5.5 costs 53¢ on Kalshi.
What has to happen
- Tennessee runs well past the 103 yards a game it managed against ranked teams last year.
- Tennessee has the ball longer. Four of Texas's five road opponents last season held it for more than 32 minutes.
- Texas doesn't find another 21-point fourth quarter like the one against Ohio State.
How to bet it
| Contract | Price | Why | |
|---|---|---|---|
| BEST | Tennessee +5.5 | 53¢$10 → $18.87 | Covers every Tennessee win and every Texas win by 5 or fewer. |
| ALSO | Tennessee +3.5 | 45¢$10 → $22.22 | A little more payout, but a Texas win by 4 or 5 now beats you. Those two points are worth the extra 8¢. |
| SKIP | Tennessee to win | 36¢$10 → $27.78 | If your script is "close," a Texas win by 3 is still a loss on this. |
My readThis is my pick. A veteran O-line against a new Texas defense, on Texas's first road trip. Anything from a Vols win to a Texas nail-biter cashes it.
Tennessee beats No. 1
36% market chance · Tennessee to win costs 36¢. You're betting it happens more than about one time in three.
What has to happen
- Tennessee is ahead or close at half. Texas trailed at halftime in four of its five road games last season.
- The run game that put up 299 yards at Georgia Tech shows up against a top defense.
- The freshman quarterback keeps holding up: three sacks allowed in three games.
How to bet it
| Contract | Price | Why | |
|---|---|---|---|
| BEST | Tennessee to win | 36¢$10 → $27.78 | If you believe the upset, this is the cleanest way to get paid for it. |
| ALSO | Tennessee +5.5 | 53¢$10 → $18.87 | Pays less, but you still win if you're a little wrong and Texas scrapes by. |
| SKIP | Tennessee by 6 or more | 24¢$10 → $41.67 | Most upside, but the biggest risk here. Not only does Tennessee need to win, it needs a cushion. In a tight game I'll look elsewhere. |
My readIt's live, and it depends on how much upside you want. Taking the points gives you some extra runway if the Vols lose a heartbreaker.
Texas falls behind, then storms back
13% market chance · Kalshi sells this exact result, Tennessee wins the first half and Texas wins the game, for 13¢.
What has to happen
- Texas starts slow again. It trailed at halftime at Ohio State, Florida, Mississippi State and Georgia last year.
- Texas repeats its fourth quarter against Ohio State, when it scored 21 after trailing 23-3, this time in front of 100,000 Tennessee fans.
How to bet it
| Contract | Price | Why | |
|---|---|---|---|
| BEST | Tennessee 1st half, Texas game | 13¢$10 → $76.92 | Pays for the exact script and nothing else. It's a thin market, so check the price before you buy. |
| ALSO | Tennessee wins 1st half | 36¢$10 → $27.78 | If you trust the slow start more than the comeback, bet only the half. |
| SKIP | Texas to win | 66¢$10 → $15.15 | You pay for every Texas win, not just the comeback you're calling. |
My readInteresting angle, but it's one I'd rather have for a home team that can have the crowd fuel a comeback.
Texas wins by two scores
28% market chance · Texas by 14 or more costs 28¢. Texas by 21 or more is 14¢.
What has to happen
- The new Texas defense stops the run on the road. Ohio State ran for 94 yards at 3.0 a carry, but that was in Austin.
- Texas wins a road game by more than it won any road game last season. Its best was 7, in overtime at Mississippi State.
How to bet it
| Contract | Price | Why | |
|---|---|---|---|
| BEST | Texas by 14 or more | 28¢$10 → $35.71 | If you really see a rout, get paid like it. |
| ALSO | Texas by 6 or more | 48¢$10 → $20.83 | The safer version. You still win if the rout turns into a 10-point game. |
| SKIP | Texas to win | 66¢$10 → $15.15 | It pays the same for a 1-point win as a 30-point win. It's the worst way to bet a blowout. |
My readI don't see it. Texas didn't beat anyone by two scores on the road last season, and this is its first trip this year, with a solid Tennessee squad waiting.
Both teams score early and often
50% market chance · Over 55.5 costs 50¢. 64 or more points costs 33¢.
What has to happen
- Both teams get into the high 20s. Kalshi has Texas over 30.5 at 49¢ and Tennessee over 26.5 at 48¢.
- Tennessee keeps finishing drives: 11 rushing touchdowns in three games.
How to bet it
| Contract | Price | Why | |
|---|---|---|---|
| BEST | Over 55.5 | 50¢$10 → $20.00 | The straight version of the script. |
| ALSO | Tennessee over 26.5 points | 48¢$10 → $20.83 | If Tennessee's offense is the reason you like the over, bet Tennessee's offense. |
| SKIP | Over 63.5 | 33¢$10 → $30.30 | It needs a track meet, not just a shootout. Texas's road games last season averaged 46 points. |
My readI'm passing. Tennessee's best path is a long day on the ground, and long drives run the clock even if they use tempo. If I played the total, I'd look at the under before the over.
Why The Market Keeps Moving Toward Tennessee
Tennessee's price has climbed ever since Texas's comeback against Ohio State, and I agree with the move.
Tennessee: Built To Run On Texas
Five Starters Back Up Front
CBS Sports ranked Tennessee's line No. 6 in the country and first in the SEC in returning production this summer. Center Sam Pendleton started every game last season, and the Vols lost only 5.5% of their pass-blocking snaps. Through three games, a true freshman quarterback has been sacked three times.
6.7 Yards A Carry
Tennessee has run for 896 yards and 11 touchdowns. Furman and Kennesaw State inflate that, so the game that matters is Georgia Tech: 299 rushing yards on the road against a Power 4 defense. DeSean Bishop has 286 yards and four touchdowns, Daune Morris is averaging 8.1 a carry, and Faizon Brandon has added 137 yards and three scores with his legs.
Last year this line didn't do it against good teams.Tennessee averaged 103 rushing yards against ranked opponents in 2025, per 247Sports. It's the same group, a year older, and Saturday is the first chance to show that has changed.
Running Is How You Beat Texas On The Road
Four of Texas's five road opponents last season held the ball for more than 32 minutes. Kentucky had it for 39 and took Texas to overtime. Every long Tennessee drive keeps Arch Manning on the sideline and gives 100,000 people another chance to get loud.
Texas: First Road Trip, New Defense
Zero Road Games So Far
Texas's road record in 2025 is the concern. It lost at Ohio State, Florida and Georgia, needed overtime at Kentucky and Mississippi State, and scored 31 first-half points across the five games.
| Texas road games, 2025 | Halftime | Final |
|---|---|---|
| at Ohio State | 0-7 | L 14-7 |
| at Florida | 7-19 | L 29-21 |
| at Kentucky | 7-0 | W 16-13 (OT) |
| at Mississippi State | 14-24 | W 45-38 (OT) |
| at Georgia | 3-14 | L 35-10 |
A New Defense In The Middle
Texas fired defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski after last season and brought back Will Muschamp. Linebackers Anthony Hill Jr. and Trey Moore went in the NFL Draft, and Liona Lefau transferred to Colorado. Pittsburgh transfer Rasheem Biles is one of the new faces.
The early numbers are good. Ohio State ran for 94 yards at 3.0 a carry. But Texas State ran for 161, and all three games came in Austin, against lines that don't look like this one.
My Take
Tennessee's veteran O-line gets a Texas defense that has several key changes from 2025, in its first road environment. If the Vols can run the ball and control the tempo, Texas has to be hyper-efficient on offense in an extremely hostile environment.
Tennessee at home, with the points. I'll take the Vols +5.5.
Nothing here is financial advice.
