The Kalshi Netflix odds board just dumped a reigning No. 1 overnight. As recently as Wednesday, Outer Banks: Season 5, fresh off winning last week's chart, was priced at 54 cents to repeat. By Thursday morning it was down to 7 cents, and a three-part true-crime docuseries that had been on Netflix for barely a day was priced like a 7-in-10 favorite.
If you are new to these contracts, the mechanics take one sentence: each show on the board has a Yes contract that pays $1 if that show finishes No. 1 on the week's US Netflix chart, so the price is the market's probability in cents. What the board is saying this week is blunt. The market thinks the final season of one of Netflix's biggest franchises is about to lose its own farewell lap to a documentary nobody could watch before Wednesday.
I think the market is probably right, and the reason comes down to one piece of arithmetic Netflix publishes every Tuesday. I will get to it below the board. This is also a page worth bookmarking: the market re-lists every week, and I will refresh the ladder here each time it does.

The Board: Netflix Top Show Prices This Week
Here is the full Netflix top show odds ladder, pulled from Kalshi's KXNETFLIXRANKSHOW market as of 10:40 AM ET on Thursday, August 27. A Yes contract pays $1, or 100 cents, if the show tops the chart, so a 69-cent price implies about a 69% chance and the 70-cent ask implies 70%.

A reading note on the thin end of that ladder: only the top three contracts have both a bid and an ask behind them. The other nine show a 0-cent bid against a 1-cent ask, which is a displayed line at the exchange minimum, not a real quote anyone is standing behind. The three live quotes sum to roughly 101% at their midpoints, which is about as tight as a three-way entertainment book gets. To turn any of these prices into familiar American odds, the conversion works the same here as anywhere else.
The row that tells the story is Outer Banks. About 48% of all contracts traded on this board in the past day, roughly 29,900 of them, went through that one line. A price does not fall from 54 to 7 on a rumor; it falls like that when holders decide, all at once, that the thing they were betting on has already happened to somebody else.
What Flipped Overnight
Outer Banks earned its spot at the top the ordinary way. Season 5 hit Netflix on August 20, all ten episodes at once, and won the week of August 17-23 with 9.4 million views in its first four days. Last week's Kalshi contract settled Yes on it, the fourth straight season of the show to open at No. 1.
The soft spot was visible inside that same number. Per Variety's chart report, Season 2 opened to 12.2 million views, Season 4 to 15.3 million, and Season 3 to 17.4 million, which makes 9.4 million the franchise's weakest sequel-season debut on record. Against Season 4's launch that is a 39% drop, and against Season 3's peak it is down 46%. Last week's winner, in other words, was a fading version of a champion, and the market was holding it at 54 cents mostly because nothing on the calendar had shown up to challenge it.
Then the calendar turned over. On August 26, Netflix released Death of the Pastor's Wife, a three-part docuseries examining the 2024 death of Mica Miller, a South Carolina pastor's wife, and the questions that followed it. Within a day its Yes contract went from nothing to 69 cents on more than 6,100 contracts. Beauty in Black: Season 3 repriced into the 20s at the same time. When one line moves, that can be a single trader with an opinion. When the whole ladder reshuffles at once, the market has changed its mind about the week, and settlement is the only argument left.
How This Market Settles
The rules are short and worth reading literally. The contract resolves Yes for whichever show is No. 1 on the Netflix Top 10 US TV chart published Tuesday, September 1, using Netflix's own Tudum Top 10 page as the settlement source. The chart published that day covers the viewing week that ended the previous Sunday, August 24 through August 30. Because the chart lands on Tuesday, trading closes the night before, at 11:59 PM Eastern on Monday, August 31.
The measurement inside that chart is the arithmetic I promised earlier. Netflix ranks its weekly lists by views, and a view is not a click: Netflix computes it as total hours watched divided by the title's total runtime. Outer Banks: Season 5 is ten episodes. Death of the Pastor's Wife is three. The shorter series needs far fewer total hours in front of American televisions to post the same view count, and every completed binge of it counts as a full view in a way a half-finished season of a drama does not.
One more line from the rules worth knowing: Kalshi states these products are not endorsed by Netflix and that references to Netflix are descriptive only. Kalshi is a CFTC-regulated exchange, and Netflix's published chart is simply the settlement source, the same way a league's official box score settles a sports market.
What Has To Happen For Outer Banks To Hold On
Start with the case for the 7-cent side, because it is real. Outer Banks gets all seven days of the August 24-30 window; the docuseries only gets five, having launched Wednesday. This is the franchise's final season, the kind of event that keeps casual viewers finishing episodes deep into week two. And a 9.4-million-view debut, soft or not, is still a mountain of viewing for anything else to climb over.
Here is what that case is up against. The 9.4 million came from the show's loudest possible four days, launch weekend, and week-two audiences for a binge release are the viewers who did not care enough to watch it immediately. Meanwhile the challenger only needs five days of a three-episode binge, with the runtime math above working in its favor the entire time, on a subject that spent two years as a national story before the cameras ever rolled. The market watched all of this reprice in real time and left Outer Banks a 7-cent bid. For the contract to come back, three things have to break its way at once:
- Week-Two Decay Has To Be Unusually Shallow. A debut already down 39% from the prior season's launch has to suddenly stop fading.
- Death Of The Pastor's Wife Has To Land Soft. Five days of a three-episode binge, converting hours watched into chart views roughly three times as fast as a ten-episode season if episode lengths are comparable, has to underwhelm.
- Beauty In Black Has To Miss Too. A second live challenger means Outer Banks needs two misfires, not one.
The board prices that combination at roughly 8%. Cheap longshots on this ladder have looked cheap before and stayed cheap; the price is doing the arguing, and the price says the final season's chart run ended a week early.
The Beauty In Black Wildcard
The 22-to-26-cent line, roughly a 24% implied chance at the midpoint, is the most interesting price on the board, because it belongs to a show that had been out for zero days when the market set it. Beauty in Black: Season 3 released all eight of its episodes on Thursday, August 27, which leaves it just four days of the settlement window, the shortest runway of the three contenders. A quarter is a serious price on that handicap. The market is effectively saying a Tyler Perry premiere weekend might out-binge a true-crime launch that had a one-day head start, and if either debut delivers, the Outer Banks story ends the same way. Friday brings the first full day with all three shows streaming, and its trading should start to show which of the two debuts the audience picked.
