Oregon already has one loss. It can't survive another.
The Ducks were 24-point favorites at Oklahoma State two weeks ago and lost 39-31. USC is 4-0, but nobody it has beaten is ranked, and Lincoln Riley is 5-14 against ranked teams at USC. One team needs a win to stay alive. The other needs a marquee win to prove it's real.
The market still has Oregon, ranked eight spots lower, as a 3-point favorite on the road. Before I tell you where I landed, tell me how you see it.

What has to happen
- Oregon's defense looks like the Boise State version, which allowed 274 yards, not the Oklahoma State version, which allowed 554.
- Dante Moore plays like he did against Boise State: 28 of 37 for 378 yards and 3 touchdowns.
- USC's defense leaks the way it did at Rutgers, which put up 35 points and 460 yards.

My readThe red flags are real, but the price already reflects the Oklahoma State loss. I think Oregon's defense is far superior, and Moore and company should move the ball on USC.

- Oregon's defense has another Stillwater night. Oklahoma State threw for 317 yards and ran for 237.
- The Coliseum shows up for a ranked opponent in prime time.

My readMaiava has been the real deal, and that's the case for USC. I just think Oregon has more on both lines.

Why No. 20 Is Favored At No. 12
The price already carries the Oklahoma State loss. If Oregon were unbeaten, this number would be bigger.
Oregon: Red Flags And A Better Roster
The Stillwater Warning
Oregon was a 24-point favorite at Oklahoma State and lost 39-31, snapping the Cowboys' 21-game losing streak against FBS teams. Dante Moore went 14 of 29 for 191 yards, Oregon held the ball for 23 minutes, and Oklahoma State piled up 554 yards: 317 through the air and 237 on the ground. Dan Lanning had been 35-0 against unranked teams.
Eight Starters Back On Defense
Oregon brought back eight defensive starters, including all four up front (Teitum Tuioti, Matayo Uiagalelei, A'Mauri Washington and Bear Alexander) and both cornerbacks (Brandon Finney Jr. and Ify Obidegwu). That group held Boise State to 274 yards and 93 on the ground. I think the 554 in Stillwater is the outlier, not the baseline.
Moore, Minus Some Weapons
Against Boise State, Dante Moore went 28 of 37 for 378 yards and 3 touchdowns, and he has 9 touchdowns and no interceptions on the season. He'll do it without receiver Jeremiah McClellan, who broke his foot before the Portland State game, running back Simeon Price and guard Trent Ferguson, who is done for the season. Tight end Jamari Johnson is questionable.
USC: 4-0 Without A Real Test
Maiava Has Been Nearly Perfect
Jayden Maiava has completed 87 of 115 passes for 1,173 yards, 12 touchdowns and 1 interception. USC has scored 39 or more in every game and led at halftime in all four.
The Rutgers Warning
Rutgers is 0-3 and lost 37-21 to UMass. It still put 35 points and 460 yards on USC last week, with Dylan Lonergan throwing for 252 yards and 3 touchdowns. USC's four wins came against San Jose State, Fresno State, Louisiana and Rutgers.
Riley's Ranked Problem
USC is 5-14 against AP top-25 teams under Riley, per CBS Sports, and the defense is thin in the back: safety Kendarius Reddick and linebacker Taylor Johnson are out, and safety Alex Graham is questionable after getting hurt at Rutgers.
My Take
Oregon has some concerning red flags, but the price already reflects the loss to Oklahoma State. With eight starters back on defense, including the whole front and both corners, I still think Oregon's defense is far superior, and Moore and company should be able to move the ball against USC. I'll lay the -2.5.
