Trevor Lawrence went 18 of 23 for 245 and four touchdowns and Jacksonville took its foot off the gas at halftime. Bo Nix went 17 of 28 for 131 at a 3.3-yard average depth, and the Denver talk this week is Sean Payton taking the call sheet back from Davis Webb by October. Denver is favored anyway. The spread has held at 2.5. On Kalshi, Denver winning by three or more is 53 to 54 cents, which prices the Broncos a little stronger than the book does. The money is on the road dog: 53% of DraftKings' spread tickets and 51% of the handle on Jacksonville, and on the moneyline 80% of the money is on the Jaguars at +124. The over is 80% of tickets and 83% of the money at 45.5.
Tale of the Tape
Unstoppable, Against Cleveland
Jacksonville beat the Browns 34-10 and the game was never in contention after Parker Washington's diving touchdown at the pylon. Lawrence completed passes 22 points over expected, went 2 of 4 deep for 62 and two scores, and the offense used play action on 42% of dropbacks while throwing only 43% of the time in neutral situations. Sixty percent success. Bhayshul Tuten ran 15 for 66.
The defense got to Deshaun Watson five times and hit him eight, sending five or more rushers a third of the time, and allowed under four yards a carry. Yes, it was Cleveland. You can only play who the schedule gives you, and the Jaguars did it across the board. This defense belongs in the conversation with the good ones and does not get mentioned there by casual fans.
Disgusting In Kansas City
Denver lost 31-10 and it looked worse than the score. Nix was sacked on the first snap and picked on the third. The Broncos ran 46 plays, went 2 of 12 on third down, ran the ball 14 times, and finished with 176 yards at 3.7 a play. Nix called it pretty pitiful. Payton's read on the call sheet was a lot of throws, not enough runs. The defense allowed 6.4 a carry, five runs of 10 or more, and a 59-yard catch by Travis Kelce.
Kansas City is a good defense and that was Arrowhead in Week 1. All of that is true. Denver's defense is still a good unit, and altitude is a real thing at a 4:05 kick. None of that explains 131 passing yards at home in the next game if the play-calling is the same.
The Better Quarterback Is The Dog
Jacksonville is getting a little disrespected here. All the kinks Denver still has to work out on offense are lining up against a defense that just got five sacks, and Denver's own defense allowed 6.4 a carry to a run-first play-action offense that looks a lot like Jacksonville's. I think the Jaguars are the better team because of Lawrence.
I do not usually take a dog inside of three, and I like Jacksonville enough to do it here. If you can find plus-3, I love it.
The Number I'd Take
Jaguars +2.5.On Kalshi, that is the Broncos not winning by three or more, 46 to 47 cents.
I am not betting the total. The over money is already 83% of the handle on a Denver offense that just threw for 131.
What Moves The Number From Here
- RJ Harvey. Denver's back did not practice. Payton's fix is more runs, and the runner is on the report.
- Brian Thomas Jr. and Jakobi Meyers. Both limited for Jacksonville. Lawrence's four touchdowns went to a full receiver room.
- Marvin Mims Jr. Did not practice. Denver's only speed on the outside.
- Wind at Mile High. 10 to 13 mph in the forecast. Not a total move yet; check Sunday morning.
