Wyndham Clark leads the VidantaWorld Mexico Open odds on Kalshi, but the board still makes him a long shot against the other 119 players combined. He is the only player in the field ranked inside the world's top 25, at a course where the last two winners were earning their first PGA Tour title.
Three Wins in 2026, Then a Quiet Fall
Clark has won three times in 2026: the CJ Cup Byron Nelson in May, the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills on June 21, and the BMW Championship in August (PGA Tour results). He closed out the BMW three shots clear of Patrick Cantlay and afterward called the three-win season his best year yet, coming off his worst (NBC DFW). After the BMW he played twice before Mexico: a T21 at the Tour Championship and a T63 at the Baycurrent Classic in Japan.
When the field was set, Clark ranked fifth in the world (Golf News Net, Oct. 25). Only two other players in it were inside the top 50: Ben Griffin at No. 28 and Tom Kim at No. 31.
Vidanta Vallarta Has Had Two Kinds of Winner
Jon Rahm won the first edition here in 2022 at 17 under, a shot clear of a three-way tie that included Tony Finau, while Clark finished T67 (ESPN). Finau came back and won in 2023 at 24 under, the lowest winning score in the event's four editions there (ESPN). Clark tied for 24th that year and has not played the event since.
Then the trophy went to first-timers. Jake Knapp, in his fifth start of his rookie season, won in February 2024 at 19 under for his first PGA Tour title (NBC Sports). That year Doug Ghim and Andrew Novak tied for eighth (ESPN), and Patrick Rodgers made it three top-10 finishes in the event's first three editions. In February 2025, Brian Campbell and Aldrich Potgieter tied at 20 under, and Ben Griffin tied for fourth two shots back (ESPN). Campbell won the playoff for his first Tour title (Golfweek, Oct. 23). Ghim, Novak, Rodgers, Campbell, Potgieter and Griffin are all back for 2026, as is Finau.
The course will not play exactly as those winners saw it. The Mexico Open was played in February in 2025 (TSN, Jan. 9). This is its first autumn edition, coinciding with Día de Muertos, on a Greg Norman course that has been reconfigured for 2026 (Guadalajara Reporter, Aug. 6). Norman's design firm planned work that included holes 4, 8, 17 and 18 when the renovation began in September 2025 (Greg Norman Golf Course Design), which puts the last two holes among the planned changes. On Oct. 27 the forecast on the PGA Tour's field page for play from Thursday, Oct. 29, through Sunday, Nov. 1, showed mostly sunny days with wind under 10 mph.
Who Has Been Contending This Fall
Doug Ghim and Ben James have both contended this fall. Ghim finished second at the Bank of Utah Championship at 24 under, two shots behind Austin Smotherman (ESPN), then tied for 17th in Japan (ESPN). Ben James came out of the 2026 PGA Tour University class at No. 1. He was third at the Wyndham Championship in August, second at the Biltmore Championship in September and fifth at the Bank of Utah (Hartford Courant, Oct. 20). In Bermuda, where Smotherman won again, James missed the cut and Corey Conners tied for third (ESPN). Smotherman is not in the Mexico Open field or on its alternate list. Tom Kim won the Genesis Scottish Open in July and finished third at the U.S. Open, but has not played since the Tour Championship (PGA Tour results).
What Kalshi's Mexico Open Board Pays

Cost of a Yes contract, in cents, on each of Kalshi's Mexico Open boards (the lowest price a seller is offering):

| Wyndham Clark | 6.5 | 23 | 35 | 51 | 84 |
| Tom Kim | 4.9 | 23 | 34 | 53 | 85 |

| Doug Ghim | 4.8 | 20 | 36 | 54 | 85 |
| Ben Griffin | 4.3 | 20 | 32 | 49 | 84 |
| Johnny Keefer | 3.2 | 13 | 24 | 40 | 78 |

| Aldrich Potgieter | 1.0 | 7 | 9 | 16 | 56 |
| Brian Campbell | 0.4 | 5 | 6 | 9 | 46 |
The winner board's asks add up to about 123 cents across 120 names. More than two million winner contracts had traded since the board opened Oct. 26; the Top 5, Top 10, Top 20 and make-the-cut boards had each traded under 10,000.
Kalshi is a CFTC-regulated exchange, and each of these is an event contract: a Clark winner contract pays $1 if he wins and nothing otherwise, so its price in cents reads roughly as his chance in percent. The asks across the winner board add up to more than a dollar, mostly because each is the price a seller wants, which sits above what buyers are bidding. A playoff counts: whoever wins it is the winner. The market's rules split on withdrawals: a golfer who withdraws before teeing off settles No on the winner and round-leader boards, but at fair market value on the finishing-position and make-the-cut boards, and a golfer who withdraws after teeing off settles No everywhere. Ties count in full on the Top 5, 10 and 20 boards, so a share of 10th pays a Top 10 contract a whole dollar. The first-round leader board splits the payout on a tie, $1 divided by the number of players sharing the lead.
For PGA DFS: Clark's Premium Is His Ceiling
The finishing-position boards are the closest thing Kalshi lists to a placement projection. Reading a player's win price against his Top 10 and Top 20 prices separates two things a daily fantasy sports (DFS) roster cares about: how often he wins, and how often he finishes high enough to score well. Before the first round, the card shows Clark's lead over Tom Kim, Ben James, Doug Ghim and Ben Griffin on the winner board disappearing on the placement boards: Ghim cost more than Clark for both a Top 10 and a Top 20 finish, and Kim cost more for a Top 20. That reads as one higher ceiling over five similar floors. A higher ceiling counts for more in large-field DFS contests, where a winning lineup usually needs a golfer near the top of the leaderboard, than in cash games such as head-to-heads and double-ups, where making the cut and finishing steadily matter more. The placement boards have traded a sliver of the winner board's volume (see the card), so a single order can move their prices. Stokastic.com's PGA DFS picks carry the lineup side, and the Kalshi golf picks page covers Kalshi's other golf markets.
Three Forecasting Models Lean on Ranking and History
As a second opinion on the facts above, three AI models were asked on Oct. 27 to price the whole field without seeing Kalshi's prices, and all three put Clark at about one chance in 10, higher than the board had him that day. They rated Tony Finau, Brian Campbell and Aldrich Potgieter, the only players in the field with a win or a runner-up finish here, well above their prices that day, and they rated Doug Ghim and Ben James far below theirs. The models leaned on world ranking and course history, while Ghim and James, the two the board priced far higher that day, each finished second in a fall event.
Why Clark Could Still Run Away With It
The two players with star résumés who won here, Rahm and Finau, won the first two editions, so a first-time winner is a recent pattern rather than the course's rule. Clark's season shows what he does when he gets going: from late May through June he won the Byron Nelson, finished third at the Memorial, won the U.S. Open and tied for fifth at the Travelers, with a T11 at the RBC Canadian Open the only start in that run outside the top 10. The next-best player in this field by world ranking sits more than 20 places below him.
What Would Move the Board Before Sunday
Clark's first round is the first look at his game since Japan, and the favorite's spot can change hands in a day once play begins. The cut after 36 holes decides the make-the-cut board and ends close to half the field's chances on the winner and finishing-position boards. The four winners here finished between 17 and 24 under, all before the renovation, so the first two rounds will also show whether the reworked holes play harder.
