The Quick Answer
Minnesota. As of September 3, the Vikings rung is the only one on Kalshi's board with real money on both sides, and every other team sits at a few cents. The separate contract on a trade before December 1 is priced a little short of a coin flip, so the market expects him to open the season in Minnesota and reserves its real doubt for the deadline.

Why He Is Still a Viking
McCarthy was the tenth pick in 2024. He lost the starting job on August 11, when the Vikings named Kyler Murray their Week 1 quarterback. By August 23 ESPN was reporting that Minnesota had fielded trade calls, he was splitting second-team reps with Carson Wentz, and Pro Football Talk wrote he might not be a Viking by Monday. Kalshi listed the board the next afternoon, and the money went to the two landing spots pundits kept naming: the Chargers, where Jim Harbaugh coached him at Michigan, and the Dolphins.
Cutdown produced no trade and no release. The Vikings kept all four quarterbacks on the initial roster, per the Minnesota Star Tribune, then waived Max Brosmer a day later. Keeping McCarthy was cheap. He is owed $4.85 million through 2027 whether he plays in Minnesota or not, so cutting him would have saved nothing and invited a waiver claim. Four quarterbacks for a day reads like a decision deferred.
What Moved Since Cutdown
The trade market did not go to sleep. If keeping McCarthy on the roster meant the Vikings intended to keep him, that contract should have drifted back to the teens, where it traded in mid-August. Instead it dipped on the news, was re-bought to 40 cents within hours, and has held there since. One buyer chased it to 58 cents on the night of September 1 with nothing new on the wire, and it was back where it started by the next close. The market read the roster the way the Star Tribune's beat report did: a holding pattern.
General manager Nolan Teasley met reporters on September 2 and said he expects McCarthy on the roster for the opener. He declined to name Murray's backup and would not say whether the club had discussed trades, beyond noting that the Vikings "get calls all the time." On McCarthy: "I'm pleased that he's part of our present version of the Minnesota Vikings and excited about his future."

What Happens Next
The Vikings open at home against the Packers on Sunday, September 13, with Murray starting and, per the Star Tribune, an unsettled backup between Wentz and McCarthy. Teasley said the depth chart may not be clear until the Week 1 inactive list, so who dresses behind Murray is the first tell.
The trade deadline is Tuesday, November 10, at 4 p.m. ET, and that is the date the trade contract is really pricing. Every Murray injury scare, every Wentz start and every McCarthy inactive Sunday between now and then will show up first in that contract. On the team board, the sign of a real suitor would be a double-digit bid with size behind it on any rung. Today the Chargers and Miami bids are 4 cents.
If nothing moves by the deadline, the board settles on December 1 with Minnesota at $1.
