Carolina gave up 59 points in Week 1, the most in franchise history, and got run over for 7.46 yards a carry doing it. Five days later the books made the Panthers a road favorite in a division game. Gross games are where the money is made, and this is one of them. If you just want the pick, it is at the bottom.

The number has sat at 2.5 all week. On Kalshi, Carolina winning by three or more is a coin flip at 50 to 51 cents. The money is heavy on the favorite: 84% of DraftKings' spread tickets and 83% of the handle are on the Panthers, and the over is drawing 72% of tickets and 90% of the money at 43.5. That last split is the one to notice, because both offenses have a reason to be slow.
Tale of the Tape
Two Rushing Touchdowns For A Quarterback, And Two Backs Over A Hundred
Chicago ran for 7.46 a carry against Carolina. D'Andre Swift went 18 for 124 and three touchdowns, Kyle Monangai 10 for 100 and one, and Caleb Williams added 65 yards and two more scores on 10 carries. Five runs of 10 or more, four completions of 20 or more, and a 54% success rate for the offense that Ben Johnson said he wanted to be the highest scoring ever. The Panthers sent five or more rushers on 38% of dropbacks and got two sacks and three hits out of it.
The offense was fine. Bryce Young went 23 of 37 for 361 and three touchdowns, 3 of 6 on deep balls for 125 yards, and Jalen Coker caught 8 of 9 targets for 138 and two scores. Three turnovers decided it: Jimmy Horn muffed a punt, Tetairoa McMillan fumbled at the end of a long catch-and-run during the fourth-quarter rally, and Young threw a pick. Ejiro Evero is on the hot seat after one game, and the word from the locker room was embarrassing.
Bijan Robinson Had Half Of Atlanta's Touches
Atlanta lost 20-13 in Pittsburgh with Cooper Rush at quarterback. Tua Tagovailoa hurt his oblique in practice and did not play, Michael Penix Jr. was not ready off the ACL, and Rush went 12 of 22 for 143 with two interceptions at a 3.5-yard average depth. The Falcons converted 2 of 12 third downs and took four sacks. T.J. Watt's 35-yard pick-six of a pass meant for Robinson was the game.
Robinson did everything anyway: 21 carries for 83, eight catches for 90 and a touchdown on 10 targets, 54% of Atlanta's carries and targets combined. He is the best running back in football or close to it, and he is walking into a defense that could not get anybody on the ground last week.
The Atlanta defense held up. Pittsburgh averaged 3.39 a carry with a 28% stuff rate, went 3 of 12 on third down, and Aaron Rodgers went 0 for 9 on throws of 20-plus air yards, some of that on DK Metcalf's drops. Carolina's line is the question on the other side, and Young took five hits from Chicago.
Who Plays Quarterback For Atlanta
Tagovailoa missed practice again Wednesday and Thursday. That leaves Rush or Penix, and Atlanta has not said which. Either way, the case for the Falcons is not the passing game. It is Robinson against a run defense that gave up 7.46 a carry, and a defense that just shut Pittsburgh down, at home, in the division, as a dog.
Carolina's line has to prove it can protect Young against a rush that got six hits sending extra rushers only 17% of the time. A.J. Terrell did not practice Wednesday for Atlanta, which is the one Falcons absence that would change the passing matchup.
The Number I'd Take
Falcons +2.5.On Kalshi, that is the Panthers not winning by three or more, 49 to 50 cents.
I am not betting the total. Both offenses have a slow-down reason and the over money is already 90% of the handle.
What Moves The Number From Here
- Atlanta's quarterback. Rush or Penix by Friday. Penix gives the Falcons a downfield element Rush did not; the number does not change much either way, but the total does.
- A.J. Terrell. Missed practice Wednesday. Without him, Young's deep shots to Coker get easier and 43.5 gets thin.
- Jalen Coker. Limited Wednesday after 138 yards. He is Carolina's downfield game right now.
- Chris Lindstrom. Atlanta's right guard did not practice. Robinson's inside runs go behind him.
