The Giants' new head coach was asked this week whether his starters would play Saturday and gave the only honest preseason answer there is. "I plan on not talking about who's gonna play," John Harbaugh said. "That's what I plan on doing."
You can read that as gamesmanship. The sportsbooks read it as a hole in their model, and the hole is visible in the prices. Thirty-four venues post this game and they have not agreed on a number. The spread is out at 1, 1.5, 2 and 2.5. The total is posted at 41.5, 42, 42.5 and 43. Ranges that wide are an August artifact; by Week 12 the same market would be a fraction of that.
One book sits alone at the top of that total, and it is the number in this market I keep coming back to.
The Quick Answer
Minnesota is a short road favorite for Saturday's 1 p.m. ET kickoff at MetLife Stadium, John Harbaugh's first game as Giants head coach and Kyler Murray's first preseason snaps as Minnesota's named starter. The bet here is not Vikings or Giants. Three independent pricing mechanisms agree on the side to within a point, while the total and the spread are a point and a half apart across the board, so the only question that pays is which number you can reach. The full board, the one book that disagrees with everybody on the total, the six sportsbooks quoting a single price between them, and the only player prop posted on this game are all below.
Vikings Vs Giants Preseason Odds: The Full Board
Here is where the market sat Saturday morning, pulled from the OddsShopper live odds screen, which stacks every book posting this game on one page instead of the one price your app happens to open on.
| Market | Numbers posted | Best price on Minnesota / Over | Best price on New York / Under |
|---|---|---|---|
| Spread | MIN -1, -1.5, -2, -2.5 | -1.5 at -105 (HardRock); -2.5 at +106 (NoVig) | +2.5 at -110 (BetMGM, Borgata, SportsInteraction, TheScore) |
| Moneyline | — | -120 (NoVig), -123 (ProphetX) | +117 (NoVig), +115 (Bovada, ProphetX) |
| Total | 41.5, 42, 42.5, 43 | Over 41.5 at -109 (Rebet) | Under 43 at -110 (Circa) |
| First-Half Spread | MIN -0.5, -1.5 | -0.5 at -102 (BetMGM, Borgata, SportsInteraction) | +0.5 at -110 (Bet365) |
| First-Half Moneyline | — | -117 (NoVig) | +105 (Bet365, BetMGM, Borgata, SportsInteraction) |
| First-Half Total | 21.5 | Over at -112 (Caesars) | Under at -105 (Bet365, BetMGM, Borgata, SportsInteraction) |
Two scoping notes before you use that table. NoVig, ProphetX and Kalshi are exchanges rather than sportsbooks: you are matched against another bettor and they take a commission out of winnings instead of building the margin into the quoted price, which is exactly why they keep appearing at the top of these ladders. Treat their numbers as real but not directly comparable to a book's. And one prediction-market venue posts its own total on this game, down at 40.5, on a different fee model again, so it sits outside every comparison below.
The row that should stop you is the first-half moneyline. Four books pay +105 on the Giants to lead at the break, though BetMGM, Borgata and SportsInteraction quote as one price throughout this game, so treat that as two independent outs with Bet365 rather than four. DraftKings and OnyxOdds charge -110 for the same thirty minutes of football. Those are not neighboring prices with a rounding difference between them: a bettor at BetMGM needs the Giants to lead at halftime 48.8% of the time to break even, while a bettor at DraftKings needs 52.4%, a gap of 3.6 points. Both figures assume the half produces a leader at all, and with a 21.5-point first-half total a tie is a live outcome, so confirm your book pushes rather than graded it as a loss.
Nobody Will Tell You Who Plays, And That Is Why The Numbers Disagree
Every August game is a guess about snaps rather than a guess about talent. This one is a guess about snaps where one team answered and the other refused.
Minnesota answered. The Vikings named Kyler Murray their starting quarterback over J.J. McCarthy, and head coach Kevin O'Connell said Minnesota plans to play both, with veteran Carson Wentz and second-year quarterback Max Brosmer also possibly logging their first snaps of the preseason. Murray is likely to see a series or two at most. Justin Jefferson, the club confirmed, "won't be making his preseason debut," though plenty of other Minnesota starters will be on the field.
New York gave you nothing on purpose. Harbaugh, in his first game running the Giants, declined to commit to anything about his starters. What the Giants did confirm is the injury side, and it is substantial: Malik Nabers will not play, though he wore a red no-contact jersey for the first time in his ACL recovery this week; Jalin Hyatt is out with a leg injury; center John Michael Schmitz is doubtful with a concussion; and cornerback Paulson Adebo is a game-time decision with a hamstring, per the Giants' beat reporting. Jaxson Dart is expected to play, that one coming from separate reporting across the New York beat rather than from the team, which is the closest thing to a Giants announcement you are going to get.
Line that up against the preseason framework that governs August betting and the ranges make sense. A book pricing this game has to guess at how long a brand-new head coach leaves a young quarterback on the field behind a line that is likely without its starting center. Two books guessing differently about that produce a point and a half of spread, which is what happened.
The exposure concentrates in the first half, because that is the only stretch of this game where anybody's starters are on the field. A quarterback penciled in for "a series or two at most" behind a line likely missing its starting center is a first-half scoring story, and the first half is where this board is loosest: a 21.5 total, a spread that cannot decide between Minnesota -0.5 and -1.5, and a Giants moneyline quoted anywhere from +105 down to -110 depending on which app you open. The injury list barely moves the full-game number. It moves the thirty minutes the injury list is actually about.

The Total Is Where The Market Argues With Itself
Thirteen venues post this total at 41.5. Fourteen post it at 42.5. Three sit at 42. And Circa, alone, posts 43, at -110 on both sides. A two-way market priced at -110 and -110 is a book telling you it thinks its number is exactly right. Circa's honest view of this football game is 43 points.
Now de-vig Pinnacle at 42.5, the other number on this board worth reading. Pinnacle has the over at -105 and the under at -112. Strip the vig and Pinnacle's over is a 49.2% proposition at 42.5, meaning Pinnacle's true number sits a shade below 42.5.
Read those two together and they cannot both be right. Two of the sharpest posted totals on the board are half a point apart on the number and pointing in opposite directions from it. Somebody in that pair is wrong, and thirteen venues at 41.5 sit a full point and a half below the higher of them.
That resolves into something you can act on without picking a winner in the Pinnacle-versus-Circa argument:
- If You Want The Over, You Must Be At 41.5. Rebet pays -109 there. Six sportsbooks and Kalshi pay -112. Taking the over at 42.5, where fourteen venues post it, gives away a full point for nothing.
- If You Want The Under, You Must Be At Circa's 43 for -110. The best under at 42.5 is ProphetX's -109, and paying a cent less for half a point less number is a bad trade.
A point and a half of free line movement sits on either side of that argument, available to anyone who looks at more than one screen. Our work on totals covers why the structural preseason lean sits on the under, and part of this board supports it: at the six-book cluster the over costs -112 against a -109 under, and HardRock and TheScore charge the same tax at -115 over against a -105 under. Rebet runs it the other way. But a structural lean is never a reason to accept a bad number, and 41.5 against 43 is a bad number by a point and a half.
One thing that will not decide the argument is the weather. The National Weather Service has East Rutherford sunny at kickoff, around 82 degrees, with a north wind of about 5 mph. The threshold where wind starts suppressing the passing and kicking game sits near 15 mph, so nobody betting this total gets to blame the conditions. The game airs at 1 p.m. ET on NBC 4 in New York, with in-market streaming on Giants.com and the Giants app.
The Spread Never Reaches 3, SO Stop Trying To Buy It
Three is the most important number in football betting and seven is second, as our NFL key numbers guide lays out, and the discipline that follows is simple: buy a half point when it crosses 3 or 7 and at cheap juice, and never otherwise. On this game the question never comes up. No book on the board posts Minnesota -3 or the Giants +3. The entire market lives between 1 and 2.5, which means every half point available to you is a half point that does not cross anything.
So do not pay for it. Take it where it is free:
| Side | Best number and price | Worse version of the same bet |
|---|---|---|
| New York | +2.5 at -110 (BetMGM, Borgata, SportsInteraction, TheScore) | +2.5 at -120 (DraftKings), +1.5 at -110 (Bet365) |
| Minnesota | -1.5 at -105 (HardRock) | -2 at -113 (six books), -1.5 at -130 (Bet365) |
The Giants row is the instructive one. Four books hand you +2.5 at the standard price. DraftKings charges ten cents more for the identical number, and Bet365 will only give you +1.5 at that price. Between the best and worst versions of "the Giants and the points at -110" sits a full point of cushion, bought with nothing but a second browser tab. Call that spread betting working the way it is supposed to. If you can reach an exchange, NoVig's Minnesota -2.5 at +106 is the outlier on the board, plus money while laying the most points anyone is asking for, though the commission on winnings eats into that edge.
The Side Is Settled. Shop It Anyway.
The moneyline is where you learn there is no edge here, and then find $15 anyway.
De-vig Pinnacle's -132 and +113 and Minnesota comes out at 54.8%. Do the same to Circa's -130 and +110 and you get 54.3%. Go to the Kalshi order book, a different price-discovery mechanism with no house on the other side, and Minnesota is offered at 55 cents against the Giants at 47 cents, which de-vigs to a hair under 54%. A sharp sportsbook, a sharp market-maker and an exchange full of traders all landed inside a point of each other. When that happens the side stops being interesting, and no price on the board rescues it: the best Giants number, NoVig's +117, needs 46.1% to break even, and those three sharp reads put the Giants' true chance between 45.2% and 46.1%. That +117 is also an exchange price quoted before commission on winnings, which pushes the real requirement up rather than down, and the best number at an actual sportsbook is Bovada's +115 at 46.5%. The bet is a push at best.
What is not settled is the spread between venues. The identical Giants moneyline runs like this across the sportsbooks, with the prediction-market venues left out of the ladder because they price on their own fee model:
- +117 at NoVig (exchange)
- +115 at Bovada, and at ProphetX (exchange)
- +114 at DraftKings, FanDuel and OnyxOdds
- +113 at Bet105, Caesars and Pinnacle
- +110 at twelve books, including Bet365, BetMGM, BookMaker, Circa and Fanatics
- +108 at CryptoCom
- +105 at Bet99ON, Fliff and PointsBet
- +102 at Bally, BetParx, BetRivers, NorthStarBetsON, SugarHouse and Unibet
On a $100 ticket the top of that ladder returns $117 of profit against $102 at the bottom for the same outcome, and it drops your break-even requirement from 49.5% to 46.1%.
Look closely at those bottom six. Bally, BetParx, BetRivers, NorthStarBetsON, SugarHouse and Unibet post +102 on the Giants and -124 on the Vikings. They also post Minnesota -2 at -113, the Giants +2 at -109 and the under 41.5 at -109. Every market on this game, all six identical, to the cent. Six of the thirty-four names on this board are one price wearing six logos, which is worth knowing before you congratulate yourself for having shopped across them. The odds screen walkthrough shows how to collapse a board this wide down to the venues that actually disagree with each other.
The Only Props Posted Include A Player Who Is Not Playing
This is the section this game was supposed to have, and the market refused to supply it.
No sportsbook on our screen had posted an anytime touchdown or first touchdown market for this game as of Saturday morning, and given everything above, that is the correct decision by the books rather than an oversight. Nobody can price goal-line volume when one head coach will not say who plays and the other may hand snaps to four different quarterbacks.
The only player props posted anywhere on this game were four Underdog markets: three yardage lines at -115 on both sides, Jaxson Dart at 31.5 passing yards, Dart at 6.5 rushing yards and Justin Jefferson at 14.5 receiving yards, plus Jefferson to score a rushing or receiving touchdown at +680. Two of those numbers tell you something useful. A 31.5-yard passing line on a quarterback who is expected to play is a market pricing a cameo rather than a workload, and it lines up with everything Harbaugh declined to say.
The one thing to check before you bet a prop on this game: confirm the player is actually expected to dress. In August the props post before the inactives do, and a posted number is not a promise that anyone will run a route.
The Jefferson line is the trap. The Vikings have said he is not making his preseason debut, and a 14.5 receiving-yards line and a +680 touchdown price are sitting on him anyway. That is not an edge, it is a market that has not caught up, and the platform's void rules will decide what happens to your ticket rather than the football. Read them before you touch it, or skip it, which is what I would do.
Vikings Vs Giants Preseason Odds FAQ
What are the Vikings vs Giants preseason odds? Minnesota is a short road favorite and the number is unsettled. The Giants moneyline spans +102 to +117 for the identical bet, the spread is posted at 1, 1.5, 2 and 2.5, and the total runs from 41.5 at thirteen venues up to 43 at Circa, with one prediction-market venue lower still at 40.5.
What time is the game and where is it played? Kickoff is 1 p.m. ET Saturday, August 15 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on NBC 4 in the New York market. It is New York's preseason opener and John Harbaugh's first game as Giants head coach.
Are the starters playing? Minnesota says partly: Kyler Murray starts over J.J. McCarthy and both will play, with Carson Wentz and Max Brosmer possibly getting snaps, while Justin Jefferson sits. Harbaugh would not commit to anything for the Giants. Nabers and Hyatt are out, Schmitz is doubtful and Adebo is a game-time decision.
What is the best bet? Not a side. Pinnacle, Circa and the Kalshi order book all price Minnesota within a point of each other, so the winner is settled and no posted price beats it. The value is in the number: never the Giants moneyline at +102 when +115 or better exists, the Giants at +2.5 for -110 rather than +1.5, the over at 41.5 instead of the 42.5 a bare plurality posts, and the under at Circa's 43.
The Four Numbers To Reach, And Whether Your Books Can Reach Them
Every August the advice is to bet playing time instead of talent. This board is what happens when even the playing time is a secret, and it turns the whole exercise into an inventory question about your own accounts. Here is the whole card:
- Giants +2.5 At -110 (BetMGM, Borgata, SportsInteraction, TheScore), never +1.5 and never -120 for the same 2.5.
- Over 41.5 At -109 (Rebet), never the 42.5 that fourteen venues post.
- Under 43 At -110 (Circa), the highest number anyone will sell you.
- Giants First Half At +105 (Bet365, BetMGM, Borgata, SportsInteraction), never the -110 two books are charging.
Those middle two are the two ends of one argument, not two plays to make together. Betting both is a middle that only cashes twice if this game lands on exactly 42, and a single-number middle needs to hit far more often than a preseason total realistically lands on one integer to pay for itself. Pick the side you actually believe and take the best number for it.
Now the uncomfortable part. If your three accounts are BetRivers, SugarHouse and Unibet, you can reach exactly one of those four: the over at 41.5, and at -112 rather than Rebet's -109. The Giants at +2.5, Circa's 43 and the first-half +105 are all out of reach, because all three of your books are quoting the same prices as each other on every market in this game. Opening a fourth from that same group changes nothing. The venues that actually move your number here are BetMGM (with Borgata and SportsInteraction quoting in lockstep beside it), Bet365, Circa, Rebet and TheScore, and the honest read on this game is that the winner was never the thing worth arguing about.
Every price above came off a single screen. OddsShopper Pro puts all thirty-four venues on this game in one view with the best number flagged, which is the difference between +117 and +102 on a bet you were making anyway. Use code MINNYG20 for 20% off.
