Seattle's first home game since the confetti fell is also the first game of the year where most established starters are expected to sit. Mike Macdonald has said Seattle's are. Dallas is not playing Dak Prescott. That leaves Drew Lock, Jalen Milroe, Joe Milton and Sam Howell to decide a football game between the defending Super Bowl champion and a team that flew in from Oxnard.
So stop trying to handicap it. There is nothing here to handicap. What there is instead is a board where 23 venues looked at the same unknowable 60 minutes and came back 18 cents apart on the identical ticket. Across all seven markets on this game, exactly three posted prices clear their own break-even by more than a rounding error. One of them is worth a ticket, and I will show you the other two so you can see why they are not.
Every fair price below comes from the same method: take each venue that posts both sides of a market, strip the vig proportionally across the pair, and use the median of those venue-by-venue readings as the field's honest view.
The Quick Answer
Seattle is a short home favorite for Saturday's 8 p.m. ET kickoff at Lumen Field, sitting at -2.5 at 23 venues and -3 at nine more, with the total split across 37.5, 37 and 36.5. The play is the Dallas Cowboys +2.5 at +108 at NoVig, a bet three other venues will happily sell you at -110 instead. Below: what both coaches committed to, the 23-venue spread board where that gap lives, why paying up to +3 is the trap it looks like, and why the under everyone wants is already in the price except at one window.
Two Coaches, Two Answers, Same Conclusion
Start in Seattle, because the home team is the one the market is asking you to lay points with.
Macdonald has said his established starters will not play in the opener, which takes Sam Darnold, No. 21 on this year's NFL Top 100, off the field along with the rest of the group that just won Super Bowl LX. Drew Lock, still the veteran backup behind Darnold, takes the early work, with second-year quarterback Jalen Milroe behind him. Seattle beat writer Gregg Bell's notes out of the 17th camp practice added the part that matters more than the quarterback order: Bell flagged running back depth as thin for the opener, and separately listed Jadarian Price and edge rusher Derick Hall among the players who missed that practice.
Dallas arrived with the same policy and a narrower quarterback room. Prescott is not playing. Joe Milton and Sam Howell take the majority of the snaps under center, and the two of them are competing for the right to back Prescott up, which means neither has a reason to protect anything. Rookie defensive back Caleb Downs is expected to get playing time, per Cowboys reporter Jon Machota. The team's own account framed the trip as Oxnard to Seattle, and Cowboys writer Patrik Walker framed the game as the week the camp battles finally get tested.
The August rule of thumb: when both head coaches have already told you the starters are sitting, the roster page is not information. The price is the only thing left that can be wrong.
Put the two announcements side by side and the shape of the evening is fixed.
| Seattle | Dallas | |
|---|---|---|
| QB1 | Darnold sitting, starters out per Macdonald | Prescott not playing |
| Who Plays | Lock first, Milroe behind him | Milton and Howell split the majority |
| What Is Being Decided | backup evaluation on a title roster | an open backup quarterback competition |
| Roster Note | thin at running back for the opener | rookie DB Caleb Downs gets snaps |
The row that does the most work is the third one, and the asymmetry in it is the only football argument on this page. Seattle has already settled its order: Lock first, Milroe behind him, nothing at stake for either. Dallas has two quarterbacks auditioning against each other for a job, which is the one thing in this game that reliably produces urgency. That does not make Dallas the better team. It makes Dallas at plus money easier to justify than laying juice with a champion's backups who have nothing to prove.
Now do something with that instead of leaving it as a lean. Four backup quarterbacks, two coordinators hiding everything they own, and a Seattle backfield the beat writers describe as thin for this specific game is not a side argument. It is a scoring argument, and the natural place to express it is the total. Hold that thought, because two sections from now you will see that the total has already been bought at every window on the board. When the read has nowhere honest to live, the only thing left to be right about is the price, and the price is where this game is genuinely mispriced.
The Spread Is Where The Money Is, And It Is On Dallas
Here is the payoff to that opening promise. Twenty-three venues post Seattle -2.5, all 23 of them price both sides, and once you strip the vig out of those 23 pairs the field's honest view is that Dallas covers 48.9% of the time. Now look at what you can buy that 48.9% for, read off the OddsShopper live odds screen — shop the number across every major book rather than whichever app is already open on your phone.
| Venue | Cowboys +2.5 | Break-even | Expected value |
|---|---|---|---|
| NoVig | +108 | 48.1% | +1.8% |
| Pinnacle, ProphetX, Bet105 | +103 | 49.3% | -0.7% |
| PolymarketUS | +102 | 49.5% | -1.2% |
| Kalshi | +101 | 49.8% | -1.7% |
| PointsBet | +100 | 50.0% | -2.2% |
| BookMaker | -102 | 50.5% | -3.1% |
| Rebet | -104 | 51.0% | -4.0% |
| BetMGM, Caesars, FanDuel, Fanatics, Hard Rock Bet, WynnBET, CoolBet, TheScore, Bovada, SportsInteraction, Borgata | -105 | 51.2% | -4.5% |
| Bet365, Fliff, Bet99ON | -110 | 52.4% | -6.6% |
The NoVig row is the entire article. A +108 ticket breaks even at 48.1% against a field that says 48.9%, which is an expected return of about 1.8%. Small, and the kind you can actually collect. Drop one rung to the +103 group and you are already handing back seven-tenths of a percent. Drop to the eleven-venue wall at -105 and you are giving up four and a half percent to hold the same opinion. Take it at Bet365 and it is six and a half.
Now flip the board over, because this is the part most previews skip. Seattle -2.5 is available at -110 at Bet365 and runs out to -130 at PointsBet, and against that same 48.9% field every Seahawks price on the -2.5 line loses money, the best of them by 2.5% and the worst by nearly ten. The alternate number does not rescue it either: Circa's Seattle -3 at +100 is the best-looking Seahawks price anywhere on the board, and against its own nine-venue field it is still a 1.5% loser. There is no version of laying it. That is not a bold read on the Seahawks; it is what a fairly priced favorite looks like once you account for what the window charges, and it is why the plus number is the only side with anything on it.
I keep coming back to why this market scattered while the moneyline did not. A full-game moneyline gets shopped and steamed by everyone. A preseason spread on a game with four backup quarterbacks is thin enough that a low-vig venue can sit 18 cents clear of the retail wall all afternoon without anyone knocking it down. None of that is a Cowboys read. It is a market-structure read, the only kind worth having when both starting quarterbacks are in ball caps.
The whole point of a board like this is that you never have to guess whether the number in front of you is the good one. Take 20% off OddsShopper Pro with code DALSEA20 and make that the default on every bet you place, not just the ones you researched.
Size it like what it is. Under two points of edge on a preseason spread is a small ticket, and it evaporates if either coach changes his mind at warmups. If Macdonald decides Darnold needs a series, or Milroe's debut gets pushed deeper into the night than expected, the number stops meaning what it meant Saturday afternoon.
Do Not Pay To Get To 3
Three is the most valuable number in football betting and 7 is second, which is why our NFL key numbers guide treats a half-point that crosses 3 as one of the very few point purchases worth making. This board offers you exactly that purchase. It is still a bad buy, and the reason is the price.
Nine venues post the alternative number instead of the main one: Dallas +3 costs -114 at Bally, Unibet, BetRivers, BetParx, NorthStarBetsON and SugarHouse, -115 at DraftKings and OnyxOdds, and -120 at Circa. De-vig those nine pairs and Dallas at +3 covers 50.8% of the time — so the extra half-point is worth about 1.8 points of win probability, which is real. But moving from +108 to -114 costs you 5.2 points of break-even. Every one of those nine prices is a loser against its own field, the cheapest by 4.7% and Circa's by seven.
That is the callback to the table above, and it is the whole discipline in one line: the half-point across 3 is worth buying at roughly a dime, and here the board is charging you 22 cents for it. Cross-reference the spread pricing mechanics piece for why books rake alternate numbers this aggressively on games nobody is betting, and the NFL spread betting primer for the general version of the rule. Take the +2.5 at +108. Do not buy the 3.
The Moneyline And The Kalshi Board: Shop, Then Pass
Back out to the straight-up market, where the disagreement collapses and the story turns into a lesson.
All 33 venues post a Dallas moneyline and all 33 price both sides. De-vig them and the field lands on 42.4%, or +136 in fair terms. The highest price anywhere on the board is +136 at PolymarketUS, which is fair to a tenth of a percent. That is the ceiling. Here is the whole ladder underneath it.
| Dallas Moneyline | Venues | Break-even | Expected value |
|---|---|---|---|
| +136 | PolymarketUS | 42.4% | +0.1% |
| +134 | Kalshi | 42.7% | -0.7% |
| +133 | NoVig | 42.9% | -1.2% |
| +131 | ProphetX | 43.3% | -2.0% |
| +130 | DraftKings, Hard Rock Bet, Circa, OnyxOdds, Bet99ON | 43.5% | -2.4% |
| +128 | FanDuel | 43.9% | -3.3% |
| +127 | Bet105, CoolBet, WynnBET | 44.1% | -3.7% |
| +126 | Pinnacle, Polymarket | 44.2% | -4.1% |
| +125 | Bet365, Caesars, Fanatics, Bovada, TheScore, Bally, Unibet, BetRivers, BetParx, NorthStarBetsON, SugarHouse | 44.4% | -4.6% |
| +124 | BookMaker | 44.6% | -5.0% |
| +120 | BetMGM, Borgata, PointsBet, Fliff, Rebet, SportsInteraction | 45.5% | -6.7% |
Sixteen cents separate the top of that board from the bottom and not one row is a bet. The best available price is fair and every other one is worse than fair, which is the ordinary state of a market everybody shops. Note the shape of it, though: eleven venues cluster on +125 and six more sit at +120, so 17 of 33 are handing back four to seven percent on the exact opinion the top of the board gives away for free.
Kalshi is worth its own paragraph, because this game is on its board and the reflex that an exchange always beats a sportsbook is wrong here. Kalshi prices Dallas at +134 on the moneyline, second-best of the 33 and within two cents of fair. It also prices Seattle at -161, which is the single worst number on the board — worse than PointsBet, worse than Hard Rock Bet, worse than every traditional sportsbook quoting the game. Same venue, same game, best price on one side and last place on the other. On the spread it sits mid-pack at +101 for Dallas. Our guide to trading NFL on Kalshi covers the fee math that eats further into any of those quotes, and the wider exchange board for the rest of the week lives on our NFL preseason odds page.
The Under Everyone Wants Is Already Bought
The structural case for a preseason under is real and I believe it. Four backup quarterbacks, two coordinators calling nothing they would rather keep hidden, a thin Seattle backfield, and a champion with zero incentive to press. The under writes itself. That is the problem: an argument this easy to make rarely survives contact with the closing number.
Twenty-one venues have the total at 37.5, nine sit a half-point lower at 37, and PointsBet alone is a full point down at 36.5. De-vig the 37.5 group and the under is a 51.0% proposition, and here is what it costs: -110 at BetMGM, Borgata and SportsInteraction; -113 at NoVig; -115 at ten venues including FanDuel, Hard Rock Bet, TheScore, Rebet and the Rush Street family; -120 at Pinnacle, Bet105, Bovada, Fliff and PolymarketUS; -121 at Kalshi; -125 at DraftKings. A -110 ticket needs 52.4% to break even against a 51.0% true rate, which is a 2.7% loser at the very best number available and an 8.3% loser at DraftKings.
That is the tell, and it is worth stating precisely: the under is the correct read and it is fully priced. Nine venues already sit a half-point below the main number and PointsBet a full point below, and the under is still juiced at every single one of them.
Here is the second of the three clearing prices, and it is the uncomfortable one. The only full-game total number on this board that beats its own break-even is the over at 37.5, +106 at NoVig, which clears by about a point. That is the opposite side from everything the situation argues, which is exactly why it is priced there: the whole world wants this under, so the over is the side left on the shelf. I am not playing it, and I want to be precise about why rather than pretend it does not exist. One point of edge on a preseason total does not survive a single rotation surprise, and unlike the spread it has no second reason behind it. Name it, respect it, pass.
The distinction worth keeping: "the under is right" and "the under is a bet" are two different sentences. Here the first is true and the second is not, because 51.0% does not pay for -110 juice.
The third clearing price is the one worth staring at longest, and it lives in the first half. Thirteen venues post a first-half total of 19.5, and de-vigging them makes the under a coin flip at exactly 50.0%. Caesars posts it at +105. The next-best price is NoVig at -102, then FanDuel at -104, then BetMGM, Borgata and SportsInteraction at -105, then a six-venue wall at -115 and PolymarketUS at -120. So the honest gap from Caesars to the rest of the field is about seven cents, not the twenty it looks like if you only compare it to the wall. At +105 that is roughly 2.5%, and at -102 it is already a loser.
Which is why I am naming it and not playing it. Caesars is also charging -129 on the first-half over, one of the two priciest overs on the 19.5 board, so this is one venue shading its number rather than twelve venues asleep at the same switch. Two and a half percent that exists at exactly one window, on a market whose limits are small and whose premise dies if either coach extends a starter a series, is a price to respect rather than a bet to make. The rest of the totals work here is about which version you buy, and the honest answer on this game is none of them.
Nobody Posted A Touchdown Prop
We queried the board for this game across Total Touchdowns, First Touchdown Scorer, Total Passing Yards, Total Rushing Yards, Total Receiving Yards and Total Receptions. All six came back empty. No venue on our screen has posted a player market of any kind for Cowboys vs Seahawks, which means there are no anytime touchdown leans to give you, and anyone offering you one built it out of thin air.
The books got that right, and it is worth copying. An anytime touchdown price is a bet on goal-line volume, and goal-line volume here is genuinely unknowable: two quarterbacks splitting Dallas's snaps in an open competition, Drew Lock taking the early work with Jalen Milroe following him in Seattle, and a Seahawks backfield the beat writers describe as thin for this specific game. A market nobody will price is not a market you should be trying to beat.
Cowboys Vs Seahawks Preseason Odds FAQ
What are the Cowboys vs Seahawks preseason odds? Seattle is -2.5 at 23 venues and -3 at nine more, the Dallas moneyline runs +136 down to +120, and the total is split across 37.5, 37 and 36.5. The number worth shopping hardest is the Dallas spread: the identical +2.5 ticket pays +108 at NoVig and -110 at Bet365, Fliff and Bet99ON.
What time is Cowboys vs Seahawks and where is it played? Kickoff is 8 p.m. ET Saturday, August 15 at Lumen Field in Seattle, which is 5 p.m. Pacific and 7 p.m. Central. It is Seattle's first game at home since winning Super Bowl LX.
Will Dak Prescott and Sam Darnold play in Cowboys vs Seahawks? Neither. Macdonald said Seattle's established starters are sitting, so Lock takes the first snaps with Milroe behind him. Dallas is not playing Prescott, with Milton and Howell splitting the majority of the quarterback work in an open competition to back him up.
What is the best bet in Cowboys vs Seahawks? Dallas +2.5 at +108 at NoVig, taken small. Twenty-three venues post both sides of that spread, and de-vigging them puts a Dallas cover at 48.9% against a 48.1% break-even. The edge is real, it is thin, and it exists at exactly one price.
Are there anytime touchdown props for Cowboys vs Seahawks? No. No venue on our screen posted a player market of any kind for this game.
Where This Leaves You
The football is unknowable and pretending otherwise is how preseason previews go wrong. Both starting quarterbacks are sitting, four backups split the night, the moneyline is fair at its best price and a tax everywhere else, and the under everyone loves is already bought and paid for at the window.
What is knowable is the arithmetic. Twenty-three venues looked at the same 60 minutes of backup football and came back 18 cents apart on the identical Dallas ticket — the +108 at NoVig against the -110 that three venues are still charging — and that gap, not Joe Milton, is the bet. Cowboys +2.5, taken small, at the best price you can find. What kills it is a rotation change at warmups or the number drifting back toward the field before you get down. Watch for both.
Every price above came off one screen. OddsShopper Pro puts all 33 venues on a game in a single view, sorted so the best number on each market is the one you see first, which turns line shopping from a chore you skip into something that happens before you click. This game is the proof: +108 and -110 were both sitting there all afternoon on the identical ticket. Use code DALSEA20 for 20% off.
