WNBA Best Bets Today, August 13: Every Line At Or Below Fair
The best WNBA bet today is the one you do not make. Thursday, August 13 gives us a full three-game slate, Dream at Sun, Sparks at Liberty, Mystics at Aces, and when our value capture de-vigged every game line on that board this afternoon, not a single price came back worth taking. Every market sits at or below our fair number. The favorites are steep, the books have them priced tight, and the disciplined card tonight is a pass. That is not a cop-out, it is the whole skill: value is price against true probability, and when the price never beats the probability, the play is to keep your money in your pocket. Below is the full board, graded, and the one number that came closest to live, so you know exactly what to watch for if a line moves before tip.

The Quick Answer
There is no +EV WNBA bet on our board tonight. We de-vigged all three games, and every priced market, moneylines, spreads, and totals, sits at or below its fair price. The closest number to live is the Las Vegas Aces first-half moneyline at -180 on Hard Rock Bet against a fair price of -179, which is barely two-tenths of a percent underwater and still a pass. The full slate graded game by game, plus how to handle a night the market wins, is below.
- No Row Clears Fair. The five priced-and-takeable markets range from -0.2% (Aces 1H moneyline) to -4.1% (Mystics-Aces 1H total Under 81.5) below fair. None is a bet.
- The Closest Call: Las Vegas Aces First-Half Moneyline, -180 (Hard Rock Bet), Fair -179. Two-tenths of a percent short of fair. That is the whole board's best number, and it is still a pass.
- Two Lopsided Favorites Drive The Night. The de-vig makes New York Liberty a -8.5 home favorite (fair +100 on the spread) and Atlanta a clear road favorite at Connecticut, where the Sun are a +434 home dog. Steep chalk is why nothing hangs cheap.
- Nothing Here Is A Lock, Because Nothing Here Is A Bet. On a no-value night the honest move is to grade the board, log the fair prices, and wait for a number to move.
Odds captured August 13 at 20:47 UTC. Every fair price below is our own de-vigged number from the OddsShopper live odds screen, which strips the vig from both sides of a market so you can see what a bet is actually worth. Tonight, what every bet is worth is a little less than it costs.
Tonight's Slate: Three Games, No Number To Post
The Thursday schedule is real basketball, three games across the evening:
- Atlanta Dream At Connecticut Sun, 7:00 p.m. ET (Peachtree TV / NBC Sports Boston)
- Los Angeles Sparks At New York Liberty, 8:00 p.m. ET (Amazon Prime Video)
- Washington Mystics At Las Vegas Aces, 10:00 p.m. ET (Amazon Prime Video)
A priced slate and a bettable slate are not the same thing. Books hang a line on every one of these games, but a line you can beat is a different animal, and tonight our capture found none. Two of the three games are steep-favorite spots, the kind where the price to back the chalk is already fully baked and the dog side pays too little to be worth the variance. This series has said it since its first edition: when the board hands you no price worth taking, the pass is the play. The value of this article is not a pick, it is the fair number on every market, so you can spot the moment one of them drifts.
The Closest Thing To A Live Number: Aces First Half
Start with the one I keep coming back to, because it is the best the board offers and it still is not enough.
Las Vegas Aces first-half moneyline, -180 (Hard Rock Bet), fair -179, -0.2%. Strip the vig from both sides of the Aces-Mystics first-half market and Las Vegas is a -179 favorite to lead at the break. Hard Rock Bet sells that side at -180. The gap is real, and it points the wrong way: the price charges a hair more than the market says the outcome is worth. Two-tenths of a percent is not a rounding-error edge in your favor, it is a rounding-error edge against you. On a heavy first-half favorite that means you are laying steep juice to win a small amount on a proposition the market already agrees with, and paying a touch over fair to do it. If Hard Rock Bet nudged that number to -175 or shorter before tip, it becomes a live conversation. At -180 it is the best pass on the card.
The full-game Washington Mystics moneyline tells the same story from the underdog seat: our de-vig makes the Mystics a +205 road-dog price in Vegas, with no takeable number posted better than fair. A +205 dog is a live-underdog price in theory, but only if a book pays you more than +205, and none is. The first-half Mystics moneyline that does have a takeable price, +172 (FanDuel) against a fair +179, is a full 2.5% short: you are getting less plus money than the side is worth. Backing the dog here means taking a worse number than fair on a team the market already prices to lose. That is a pass in both halves.
Sparks At Liberty: A Steep Favorite And An Efficient Total
New York is the night's biggest chalk, and the board knows it. Our de-vig makes the Liberty a -8.5 favorite with the spread priced at a coin-flip +100, and lays the first-half moneyline at a fair -256 against a best takeable of -265 on FanDuel, a 0.9% overpay. The outright Los Angeles Sparks moneyline de-vigs to +323 with no book paying more, so even the live-dog angle has no takeable edge. When a favorite is this steep and the market has the spread sitting exactly on the number, there is usually no soft side to attack, and tonight offers none.
The total is the tidiest pass of all. Sparks at Liberty Under 186.5 de-vigs to -101, and the best takeable price is -105 on Hard Rock Bet, a 1.9% overpay on a market that our number already reads as a near coin flip. The first-half total tells the same tale: Under 90.5 is a fair +108, Over 90.5 a fair -108, and neither has a takeable price that beats those numbers. A blowout-risk game like this one, where a favorite this steep can pull its starters late, is exactly the spot where an Under can be tempting, but tempting and priced-right are different things. At -105 for a -101 side, you are paying the vig, not beating it.
Dream At Sun: A Road Favorite With No Takeable Price
The 7:00 p.m. ET opener in Connecticut is the clearest chalk-versus-dog spot on the slate, and the least bettable. The de-vig pegs the Connecticut Sun as a +434 home underdog, which means Atlanta is a comfortable road favorite, and no book posts a takeable Sun price better than that fair +434. A +434 dog can be a live longshot when a book overpays, but here nobody does, leaving no number to take. The total de-vigs to Under 173.5 at -105, Over 173.5 at +105, both essentially fair and neither posted at a takeable price that clears. Two efficient sides and a coin-flip total add up to the same verdict as the rest of the board: nothing to bet, everything to watch.
Worked Example: Why A "-0.2% Edge" Is Still A Pass
Walk the Aces first-half number with me, because it is the best price on the board and it is the cleanest lesson in why "close to fair" and "bettable" are not the same thing.
What the market believes. Stripping the vig from both sides of the Aces-Mystics first-half market leaves a fair price of -179 on Las Vegas, which is a 64.2% implied probability that the Aces lead at the break.
What the price demands. Hard Rock Bet sells that side at -180. At -180 you risk $180 to win $100, an implied break-even of 64.3%. The market gives you 64.2%; the price asks you to be right 64.3% of the time.
What that costs. The side is worth a hair less than the price charges, so every dollar through it bleeds roughly two-tenths of a cent of expected value. It is tiny, but it is the wrong sign, and it is the best number on the board. Every other takeable market tonight is further underwater: the Liberty first half at -0.9%, the Sparks-Liberty total at -1.9%, the Mystics first half at -2.5%, the Aces-Mystics first-half Under at -4.1%. When the least-bad option costs you money, the board is telling you something, and the sharp response is to listen.

The Full Board, Graded
Every priced market from tonight's capture, sorted by how close the takeable price comes to fair. Eleven markets, three games, zero that clear. "None posted" in the takeable column, with a dash in the vs-fair column, means no book beat fair, which is its own kind of pass.

The row worth staring at is the top one, because of how little it offers. The single best price on an eleven-market board is two-tenths of a percent on the wrong side of fair, and it degrades from there straight down to a 4.1% overpay on the Mystics-Aces first-half Under. There is no cluster of thin-but-positive rows to shop tonight, the way earlier editions of this card carried a stack of sub-2% Unders. Tonight the whole distribution lives at or below zero. This is what an efficiently priced board looks like from the inside, and it is the exact night a disciplined bankroll is built to sit out.
How To Bet A No-Value Board
Zero takeable edges, three steep-favorite games, one number within a half-percent of fair. That profile makes the decision for you.
- Pass, And Treat The Pass As A Result. A night with no +EV price is not a failure of the card, it is the card working. Forcing a bet onto a board that grades all-negative is how a bankroll leaks, one "might as well" ticket at a time.
- Log The Fair Numbers And Watch For Movement. The Aces first half at fair -179 and the Liberty first half at fair -256 are the two closest to flipping. If a book drifts off those before tip, you already know the line worth beating, the way the July 20 board rewarded watching closing prices.
- Do Not Manufacture A Parlay To Feel Action. Stringing two steep favorites together does not create value, it stacks vig. If you are tempted, run the build through the parlay builder first and watch the combined price come back worse than fair, the same fair-value test the singles just failed. The tool is confirming the pass there, not overriding it, the same way my July 13 WNBA parlay breakdown and the July 17 parlay of the day only fired when the combined number cleared, not because a slate was on.
- Save The Discipline For A Live Number. Sitting out an efficient night is what lets you fire on the soft one. This series has had boards with a stack of playable Unders and boards, like tonight, with none; treating both the same way is the edge, the way the July 16 card framed sizing around the number, not the narrative.
The honest read on August 13: the market beat us to every price. Two of the three games are steep-favorite spots with no soft dog side, the totals sit on coin flips, and the best number on the whole board is two-tenths of a percent underwater. Nights like this are why the pass belongs on the card in the first place. FAQ
What are the best WNBA bets today, August 13? There is no +EV bet on our board tonight. We de-vigged all three games, Dream at Sun, Sparks at Liberty, and Mystics at Aces, and every priced market sits at or below its fair price. The closest to live is the Las Vegas Aces first-half moneyline at -180 on Hard Rock Bet against a fair -179, and even that is a pass.
Why is the whole board a pass? Value is price against true probability, and tonight no price beats the probability. Two games feature steep favorites (New York as a de-vigged -8.5 home chalk, Atlanta a road favorite over a +434 Connecticut dog), so the chalk is fully priced and the dog sides pay too little. The takeable markets range from 0.2% to 4.1% below fair, so backing any of them means paying the vig instead of beating it.
Is the Aces first-half moneyline worth a small play at -180? No. Our de-vig makes the Aces a fair -179 to lead at the break, a 64.2% chance, and -180 asks you to be right 64.3% of the time. It is only two-tenths of a percent underwater, which makes it the best number on the board, but it is still the wrong side of fair. If a book posts -175 or shorter before tip, it becomes worth a look.
Should I bet the Sparks-Liberty Under 186.5? Not at the posted price. Our number de-vigs the Under to -101, a near coin flip, and the best takeable price is -105 on Hard Rock Bet, a 1.9% overpay. Blowout risk in a game with a steep favorite can make an Under tempting, but paying -105 for a -101 side is paying the vig, not capturing an edge.
Where can I see the fair price on these games myself? On the OddsShopper live odds screen, which strips the vig from both sides of every WNBA game line and flags any side that clears fair, so you can confirm a no-bet night in seconds and catch the moment a number moves.
