Kalshi prices and sportsbook lines as of Thursday, September 17, 2026. DraftKings betting splits as of Thursday evening; Friday's final injury reports were not out when this was written.
Houston's defense allowed the fewest yards in the league last season and the second-fewest points. In Week 1 it sent five or more rushers on 16% of dropbacks, got two sacks, and watched Josh Allen go over the top of it for five completions of 20 or more. DeMeco Ryans put the loss on his defense afterward, and he was right to. If you just want the pick, it is at the bottom.
The Game Lines
Kalshi in cents, bid and ask. Sportsbook column is the consensus line.
| Line | Kalshi | Sportsbooks |
|---|---|---|
| Spread: Texans Win By 3 Or More | 52-53¢ | Texans −2.5 |
| Total: Over 46.5 Points | 47-48¢ | 46.5 |
| Moneyline: Texans Win | 58-59¢ | Texans -142 / Bengals +120 |
The number has sat at 2.5 all week. On Kalshi, the Texans winning by three or more is 52 to 53 cents. The money is on the road team: 57% of DraftKings' spread tickets are on Houston but only 64% of the handle, and on the moneyline 61% of the money is on Cincinnati at +120. The over has 70% of tickets and 48% of the money at 46.5, which is sharp money on the under.
Tale of the Tape

A Very Good Defense Had A Very Bad Night
Houston lost 36-31 to Buffalo and the game was competitive the whole way. C.J. Stroud went 26 of 38 for 274 and two touchdowns, was sacked three times and hit nine, and turned it over twice. The second was a Greg Rousseau strip-sack on third-and-goal from the 18 with 16 seconds left, down five, two plays after another sack. David Montgomery ran 20 times for 60 and two scores, and the run game got stuffed 25% of the time.
The defense had no rush. Allen ran for two touchdowns, one from 20 yards out where he bowled through the secondary, and three of his five completions of 20-plus went to Dalton Kincaid. That is not what this unit was last year, and the preseason is three weeks where established defenses barely play their starters. Several good defenses looked like this in Week 1.
Cincinnati's Defense Won That Game, Not Burrow
The Bengals beat Tampa 33-27 and covered as a 3.5-point favorite, and the defense did it: four takeaways, all on fumble recoveries, four sacks sending extra rushers on 21% of dropbacks, and a defensive score. Joe Burrow was pedestrian, 25 of 35 for 254 with one touchdown and one pick at a 6.5-yard average depth. Ja'Marr Chase saw four targets for 12 yards. Mike Gesicki caught 5 of 7 for 78 and a touchdown, Tee Higgins 3 for 59 at a 19.5-yard depth, Chase Brown 16 for 56.
Cincinnati threw 67% of the time in neutral situations, 11.6 points over expected, and still only won by a score with four short fields. The offensive line is retooled, and there are kinks to work out on it.
The Bounce-Back Spot
I like Houston at home off a bad loss. Burrow is not Allen. He will take off once in a while, but he cannot beat you with his legs, and Allen's legs were the secret weapon that opened everything else up in Week 1. The Texans did not get pressure on Allen. That is not how it went last year, when they tormented every quarterback they faced, and I do not think it lasts two weeks.
The other side: Houston's line allowed 12 sacks-plus-hits and turned it over twice, and Cincinnati's four-man rush just forced four turnovers. If Stroud holds the ball against that, the number is wrong. At 2.5 at home I will take Houston, and you can tell me I am wrong on Tuesday.
The Number I'd Take
Texans -2.5.On Kalshi, that is the Texans winning by three or more, 52 to 53 cents.
I am not betting the total. Both run games got stuffed last week and the sharp money is on the under at 46.5.
What Moves The Number From Here
- Joe Burrow. Limited Wednesday. Any change to his status moves everything.
- Nico Collins. Limited Wednesday for Houston. Stroud's downfield game runs through him.
- Will Anderson Jr. and Jadeveon Clowney. Anderson limited, Clowney out of practice. The whole read is Houston's pass rush coming back.
- The roof. Retractable, status not posted. Feels like 96 degrees outside; if it opens, the second-half pace favors the home team's rotation.
