Baker Mayfield completed 23 of 28 passes in Cincinnati, fumbled three times, lost all three, and Tampa lost by six. He has said he circled this game. Cleveland took five sacks and eight hits in Jacksonville and went 1 of 8 on third down. It is a big number, and I usually hate laying big numbers. If you just want the pick, it is at the bottom.

The spread has held at 8.5. On Kalshi, the Buccaneers winning by nine or more is 48 to 49 cents. The money is as one-sided as any game on the board: 83% of DraftKings' spread tickets and 95% of the handle on the Buccaneers, 97% of moneyline tickets at -455. The total is 41.5, the second-lowest of the week, with the money split down the middle.
Tale of the Tape
Four Fumbles, Six Points
Tampa lost 33-27 in Cincinnati with four turnovers. Mayfield went 23 of 28 for 216 and no passing touchdowns, ran one in, and completed passes 14 points over expected at a 5.1-yard average depth. He took four sacks that FTN charted as all his fault and was out of the pocket 28% of the time. Bucky Irving ran 8 for 45 and a touchdown and caught all seven targets. Emeka Egbuka 5 for 63.
Mayfield lost three fumbles himself and Irving a fourth. Fumbles on three straight first-half drives handed Cincinnati 21 points, and a strip-sack with 10:31 left, down ten, ended it. The offense had a 47% success rate and went 5 of 10 on third down. It moved the ball. It just kept giving it back. Say what you want about Mayfield, but if you do not love the way he plays, you do not love football.
Cleveland Was Never In It
Jacksonville beat the Browns 34-10 and took its foot off the gas after halftime. Trevor Lawrence went 18 of 23 for 245 and four touchdowns. Deshaun Watson, in his first start in almost two years, threw a pick on the opening drive, was nearly picked on the second, took five sacks into a 24-0 halftime hole, and finished 16 of 22 for 205 with a 48% sack-plus-hit rate. Todd Monken said Monday he keeps the job over Shedeur Sanders.
Quinshon Judkins ran 12 times for 33 and Dylan Sampson is out for a significant stretch. The defense allowed a 60% success rate, four completions of 20 or more, five runs of 10 or more, and forced no turnovers. Myles Garrett is gone, and Cleveland's defense has played much better at home than on the road for years.
Inside Ten
I have enough respect for Tampa's run defense that I do not think Judkins can carry this by himself, which means Cleveland has to throw, and Watson's vision has been the problem since he got there. Tampa's defense sent five or more rushers on 45% of dropbacks last week. Watson holding the ball into that, with three of his five sacks charted as his own, is the game.
Cleveland has nice young players in Concepcion, Denzel Boston and Harold Fannin Jr. It does not matter if the quarterback cannot see them. The heat index in Tampa is 96 degrees, and the team that has to chase the game in the fourth quarter is the one that feels it.
The Number I'd Take
Buccaneers -8.5.On Kalshi, that is the Buccaneers winning by nine or more, 48 to 49 cents.
I am not betting the total. Cleveland's offense went 1 of 8 on third down and Tampa's average depth was 5.1 yards; 41.5 is low for a reason.
What Moves The Number From Here
- Cleveland's line. Teven Jenkins did not practice, Elgton Jenkins and Dawand Jones were limited. Watson took 13 sacks and hits behind a full line.
- Heat. Feels like 96 at kickoff. Second-half rotation on the defensive line favors the home team.
- Sean Tucker and Jalen McMillan. Both questionable for Tampa. Irving carries the backfield either way.
- Rain. 79% chance of drizzle in Tampa. Minor, but a wet ball and a quarterback who just lost three fumbles is worth a look Sunday morning.
