The ledger giveth, and Monday the ledger took: 0-for-3, three fresh red rows, graded below in full view because that's the deal we made with you. Some context before anyone panics, though, the entire league barely homered Monday. Ten games produced just 19 home runs, about 17% below this season's league rate (1.15 per team-game), and FIVE of the nineteen came from one dugout in Seattle, where Cal Raleigh hit three by himself. Strip out the Raleigh show and the other nine games averaged 0.72 per team-game, a leaguewide power outage, and our three tickets were standing in the dark with everybody else. It happens. The table doesn't flinch:

| TOTAL | 8-for-24 | 6.00u | +4.68u (78% ROI) |
Still up 4.68 units on 6 risked, still a 78% ROI, still hitting exactly the 33% the prices demand less of. The bad nights are tuition. Tonight's syllabus has three names on it.
Bryce Harper: 1+ HR (16¢, Effective +490), Phillies @ Mariners
Off to Seattle, where the Phillies visit the building that hit five homers around them last night. George Kirby draws the start, and Kirby's having the roughest year of his career, a 4.18 ERA against a 3.69 career mark, with the autopsy showing exactly where it hurts: his four-seam is getting hit for a .466 expected slug, his sinker's surrendering a .331 average, and his knuckle-curve is getting torched to a .614 slug. Three of his six pitches are leaking, and 10 of his 17 homers allowed have gone to left-handed bats.
Now the part I love. Kirby's two most-used pitches are the sweeper (29.5%) and the four-seam (28.4%), nearly 60% of his arsenal. Bryce Harper this season slugs .683 against four-seamers with a +3.6 run value per 100, and .683 against sweepers. That's not a matchup, that's a menu. Add the split (.298/.414/.609 with 22 of his 26 homers against righties) and the fine print becomes bearable: yes, T-Mobile is a power-suppressing park and tonight's a cool 65°, that's precisely why an in-form Harper costs 16 cents instead of 25. FanDuel's best is +480; Kalshi's +490 takes it. When the man's favorite two pitches make up 58% of the plan against him, I'll bring a jacket.

Fernando Tatis Jr.: 1+ HR (15¢, Effective +529), Pirates @ Padres
Let's talk about the version of Tatis that showed up after the All-Star break, because it's a different hitter: nine homers in 92 August plate appearances after managing three in all of July, twelve since the break, riding a 12.6% barrel rate and a monstrous 53.9% hard-hit rate. The approach has visibly changed, the ground-ball-heavy first half (his launch angle sat near 5° for months) is giving way to a hitter getting the ball in the air again, and the results are arriving in bunches.
The man on the mound is Paul Skenes, and I say this with respect: the aura tax no longer matches the invoice. His ERA has doubled from the sub-2.00 sorcery of his first two seasons to 3.95, the fastball is down two full ticks (96.8 from 98.8), he hasn't touched 100 once this year after doing it 13 times last season, and his homer rate has nearly doubled (0.91 HR/9 from 0.53) with a career-worst 7-earned-run start already on the ledger this summer. Honesty corner: his expected ERA (3.17) says he's still better than the results, so this isn't a gas can, it's a great pitcher priced like the 2024 myth while trending mortal. And here's the kicker: Pittsburgh's bullpen just covered SIX innings of Monday's 12-inning marathon on the back of a weekend sweep. Whenever Skenes departs, the Padres feast on a fully-worked pen. FanDuel says +390. Kalshi says +529. That's the aura discount, and I'm buying it twice.
Manny Machado: 1+ HR (13¢, Effective +625), Pirates @ Padres
Same game, same thesis, cheaper ticket. Machado's August has been rough, .220 with a single homer this month, and that cold spell is doing all the work of dragging a 24-homer bat with 20 of those homers against right-handed pitching down to 13 cents. You know the house rule by now: cold streaks aren't predictive any more than hot ones, and the structural case doesn't care about a rough three weeks.
The structure: everything the Tatis section said about Skenes' mortal season and Pittsburgh's exhausted bullpen applies verbatim, and Machado's the pull-side righty (42.2% pull rate, 13.4° launch) built to punish the mistakes a diminished fastball leaves over the plate, plus three or four late-inning at-bats against relievers running on fumes. The books hadn't even posted a Machado number when I fired; Kalshi's +625 on a 24-homer bat in a two-pronged spot is the value swing of the night. One game, two lottery tickets, one tired pitching staff.
The Fee Math (Quick Version)
Kalshi's taker fee runs roughly 7% × price × (1 − price) — about a penny at these prices, so the true cost sits just above the sticker. Fee-adjusted, tonight's card:
- Bryce Harper At 16¢ → +490 effective (FanDuel: +480)
- Fernando Tatis Jr. At 15¢ → +529 effective (FanDuel: +390)
- Manny Machado At 13¢ → +625 effective (books hadn't posted him at writing)
The Tatis gap is 139 points. Some prices you argue with; that one you just take.

Final Thoughts
A lefty whose two favorite pitches make up 58% of tonight's opposing arsenal, and a double-dip against a legend priced for a season he isn't having, backed by a bullpen that worked overtime last night. That's the Tuesday card.
The table up top already gave the sermon, but Monday earned a footnote: an 0-fer on a night the whole league went quiet isn't variance punishing you, it's variance ignoring you. Nineteen homers across ten games and none of them ours, no lesson to extract, no adjustment to make, no tilt to indulge. The process that built eight green rows built the red ones too, and it doesn't apologize for either.
Quarter units, three tickets, same as every row in that table. Tuition's paid — class is back in session.
