Arizona beat the Chargers in Mike LaFleur's first game as a head coach, and for Cardinals fans that was the Super Bowl. I do not say that to be mean. I am an Eagles fan; I have lived the year where the big early upset was the whole season. The following week is usually the one where it wears off, and I target the opponent in that spot every time it comes up. If you just want the pick, it is at the bottom.

The spread has held at 3.5 and I was surprised it was that low for a road team of this quality. On Kalshi, the Seahawks winning by four or more is 51 to 52 cents. The money is on the Seahawks, 72% of DraftKings' spread tickets and 60% of the handle, and the under holds 85% of the money at 41.5. The roof at State Farm Stadium has not been posted; outside it is 98 degrees.

Lock Started The Game He Was Not Supposed To Start
Seattle beat New England 13-10 in a Super Bowl rematch and pushed at minus-3. Sam Darnold was hurt on a first-drive sack, hip on the report and glute tendon per the reporting, and he did not practice Wednesday. Drew Lock took the rest of the dropbacks, 16 of 22 for 187 and a touchdown, sacked once, hit five times. Seattle ran only 47 plays and went 2 of 11 on third down. Jaxon Smith-Njigba caught 8 of 11 targets for 122 and a touchdown with 21 and 45-yard catches.
The defense is why the Seahawks won. Three turnovers forced, three sacks, 3.52 a carry allowed, and zero completions of 20 or more against a quarterback who threw it deep four times. Lock is not Darnold, and Lock is not the worst backup in the league either. He has been a starter, he has this defense behind him, and he has Smith-Njigba and Jadarian Price in front of him.
Arizona's Win Was Real, And It Was Also The Chargers
The Cardinals won 26-14 in Los Angeles as an 8.5-point dog, and a blocked punt sealed it. Jacoby Brissett went 27 of 37 for 277 and a touchdown. Trey McBride caught 9 of 13 targets for 95 and a score, Kendrick Bourne 8 for 75. James Conner and Trey Benson are both on injured reserve, so the backfield is Tyler Allgeier and Jeremiyah Love, 17 for 61 and 11 for 41 with a touchdown. Michael Wilson proved he is a quality outside receiver.
The defense allowed minus 0.24 EPA a play, got three sacks and two takeaways, and gave up two completions of 20 or more. That is a good day. The problem is the Wednesday report: McBride, Budda Baker, Josh Sweat and Isaac Seumalo all did not practice. McBride is the offense. Baker and Sweat are the defense.
Three And A Half Is Not Enough
Seattle is a much better team than Arizona. This defense is dominant, and I would be surprised to see Brissett and company have the same success against it that they had against the Chargers. If Lock plays the way he played for three quarters against New England, the Seahawks win comfortably.
The total is the other read. Two defenses that dominated Week 1, a backup quarterback on one side, and a hangover spot on the other. The under money is 85% for a reason, and I am with it in spirit, not with a bet.
The Number I'd Take
Seahawks -3.5.On Kalshi, that is the Seahawks winning by four or more, 51 to 52 cents.

What Moves The Number From Here
- Trey McBride. Did not practice Wednesday. Thirteen targets last week; the Cardinals' offense does not function without him.
- Budda Baker and Josh Sweat. Both out of practice. Arizona's defense was the reason the Chargers game was close.
- Sam Darnold. Did not practice. Lock starts; a surprise return would move the number a point.
- The roof. Ninety-eight degrees outside. If it opens, the heat index and second-half pace favor the home team's acclimation.
