Who will win the 2026 Ballon d'Or? Harry Kane is the favorite. As of August 31, 2026, Kalshi prices Kane at 65 cents, a bigger favorite than in July, with the award presented October 26, 2026, in London and the 30-man shortlist still to come; 65 cents means a 65% chance. Eight price-blind AI models re-scored the race and price him lower; the full board and what changed since July are below.
The 2026 Ballon d'Or will be presented on October 26, 2026, in London, and the 30-man shortlist that usually shakes this market has still not dropped. In the meantime, Kalshi traders have done something the award's own history says almost never pays: in the 2026 Ballon d'Or odds they have made Harry Kane an even bigger favorite than he was in July. This page's original run was published on July 29; at its last price refresh, on August 7, Kane sat at 58 cents. He is 65 cents now, with more open interest on his name than the next two contracts combined, and the top two Spain contenders on the board have both drifted the other way. So we asked our panel of models to score the entire 31-player field again, price-blind, with everything that has happened since the season ended. The market moved toward Kane. The models moved toward Kane too. And the gap between them, though narrower than July's, is still the defining number on this board.

What Changed Since July
Two things moved, and both ended up nearer Kane — for opposite reasons.
The market kept buying Kane. His contract went from 58 cents on August 7 to 65 cents on August 30, a favorite shortening from about 1.72 to 1.54 in decimal odds. Lamine Yamal fell from 19 cents to 13. Rodri, the World Cup's Golden Ball winner, fell from 9 cents to 5, roughly 20.0 in decimal odds, on a contract where fewer than 800 contracts changed hands in the past day. Among the names we priced in July, Kylian Mbappe is the only other one that firmed meaningfully, 8 cents to 11; Ousmane Dembele ticked from 1 cent to 2 on a single-tick book.
The panel, meanwhile, dismantled its own July favorite. In July, five models crowned Rodri at a 34% blend and buried Kane at 7%. The re-score, now eight seats deep, lands the top two Spain contenders in a dead heat, Yamal at a 24.5% median and Rodri at 24.3%, and lifts Kane to 18%. The reason is in the card the models were handed, not a change of heart about the award. Rodri underwent minor back surgery on July 28, was expected to miss the Community Shield and was a doubt for Manchester City's Premier League opener, and enters the autumn with an expiring contract and reported Real Madrid interest.
| Name | Market, Aug 30 | Market, Aug 7 | Panel, Aug 30 (8 seats) | Panel, July (5 seats) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Harry Kane | 65¢ | 58¢ | 18.0% | 7.0% |
| Lamine Yamal | 13¢ | 19¢ | 24.5% | 23.6% |
| Rodri | 5¢ | 9¢ | 24.3% | 34.4% |
| Kylian Mbappe | 11¢ | 8¢ | 8.0% | 6.4% |
| Ousmane Dembele | 2¢ | 1¢ | 4.0% | 5.6% |
The row that matters is Rodri's, because it shows the market and the panel disagreeing about what kind of news a minor back surgery is. Traders cut him almost in half. The models cut him by ten points and stopped, and every seat that lowered him said the same thing in its own words: the voters judge a window that closed on July 31, and a September rehab does not un-win a World Cup. What it does do, as GLM put it, is create "recency drag even though voters judge a closed window," and that drag is worth about ten points to the panel, not half his price.
What has not changed is the shape of the argument, which is why the rest of this page still holds. The full board and the traps in it are below, but the Kane row above only makes sense once you see what the award has actually rewarded.
What Actually Wins A Ballon d'Or
The 2026 Ballon d'Or covers the season from August 2025 to July 2026 and is voted on by one journalist per FIFA top-100 nation, under three stated criteria: individual and decisive performance, collective achievements and trophies, and class and fair play. Hand eight models the field blind and their rationales keep landing on the same three forces:
- Major trophies, weighted toward the biggest ones. The Champions League and, in a tournament summer, the World Cup carry the most voting weight. Sky Sports counted it: only four of the past 19 winners lacked a major trophy that year, and three of the four were Lionel Messi.
- This is a World Cup year. Spain beat Argentina 1-0 after extra time in the final on July 19, so the summer's biggest stage belongs to Spain's core. The re-score's rationales kept reaching for the same shelf of precedents — Cannavaro in 2006, Messi in 2023, Modric in 2018, Ronaldo in 2002. Cannavaro and Messi won those years without a Champions League; Modric, the exception, paired his Champions League title with the World Cup Golden Ball, though Croatia lost the final.
- Individual output only goes so far without a team trophy. Voters notice goals, but a huge scoring line on a team that won nothing continental rarely wins the award outright. Robert Lewandowski's 2021 season was the recurring cautionary tale in the seats' rationales.
The one live argument inside that framework is mechanical, and the seats had it out loud in the revision round: Opus argued the ballot is a ranked top ten, so two Spaniards "ride high on the same cards and the split leaks far less than the group assumes," while Kimi and Fable countered that the Golden Ball makes Rodri the bloc's official focal point — Kimi likening it to Modric's 2018 path, Fable calling it the tiebreaker inside a winning nation in every precedent since 2002. How much a national bloc actually splits is the whole race. Otherwise the framework is unchanged from July: the market is paying for goals, the models are paying for trophies. Three names carry the disagreement: the Golden Ball winner the market is abandoning, the favorite the models still fade, and the teenager the models now like more than the crowd does.
Rodri, Manchester City: The Golden Ball Case The Market Is Abandoning
In July, Rodri was the panel's conviction pick. Now he is half of a photo finish, and the interesting part is why he did not fall further.
The case is still the summer. Rodri won the 2026 World Cup with Spain and was named the tournament's Golden Ball winner, the official best player of the World Cup, starting all eight matches. He is also not a new face to the electorate: he already won the 2024 Ballon d'Or, edging Vinicius Junior. Sonnet, the seat that held him highest at 28%, called that pairing "the two rarest assets at once — World Cup winner and Golden Ball — the closest precedent match (Cannavaro 2006, Messi 2023) in the field."
The case against is what dragged him from 34% to 24%, and the seats said so. Rodri's club season brought the FA Cup and the League Cup but neither of the two trophies this award tends to follow: City missed the Premier League and went out of the Champions League in the last 16. A second Ballon d'Or so soon after 2024 is rare company. Then the surgery. GPT put the haircut plainly: his Golden Ball "is the strongest single credential, but his club case is much thinner, he already won in 2024, and the post-season back surgery/contract noise slightly hurts salience with September voters." City have not published a return date; pre-opener reporting had him missing the Community Shield on August 16, and nothing in our card records a competitive minute for him since the surgery.
Here is the part I keep coming back to. The market took that same news and cut him to 5 cents, a 20.0 shot in decimal odds. Not one of the eight seats went below 21%. A five-fold gap on the World Cup's best player means either the market knows something about a September rehab that the card does not, or the market is treating a closed voting window as if it were still open. The models think it is the second.
Harry Kane, Bayern Munich: The Favorite The Models Still Fade
This is the sharpest split on the board, and it got sharper. Kalshi traders make Kane the outright favorite at 65 cents, up seven since our last refresh. The models moved him from 7% to 18%, their biggest single revision. Against his re-scaled market price — 52% on the raw prices, closer to 58% once you strip out the dead one-cent contracts, a wrinkle unpacked at the end of this page — that is a fade of 30 to 40 points, the widest on the board by a distance.
This is not a knock on his season, which was historic. Kane scored 61 goals in 51 Bayern appearances, 36 of them in the Bundesliga for a third straight top-scorer crown, won the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal double, and took the European Golden Shoe by nine goals over Erling Haaland. Club and country together, 73 goals in 65 games, the second-best scoring season by anyone since 2000 behind only Messi's 82 in 2011-12. He added six World Cup goals as England finished third, their best since 1966.
So why the fade? Because the seats that raised him did so for the vote-split, not the goals. The seats liked that no rival with a comparable case pulls on Kane's ballots — Michael Olise is the only Bayern name near him on the board, at a 2.3% median. As Sonnet put it, "his candidacy is uniquely unsplit and his domestic double plus England's best WC finish since 1966 is more than 'scoring alone.'" But every seat ran into the same wall: Kane did not win the Champions League, where Bayern lost to PSG in the semifinal, and England lost the World Cup semifinal to Argentina. Fable summarized the ceiling: "Lewandowski 2021 shows an all-time scoring season without UCL or international silverware has never carried a non-Messi player." Kane himself said this month that "the Ballon d'Or is not in my hands." The read to take from this is not that Kane had a bad year. It is that a 65-cent price, 1.54 in decimal odds, bakes in a Ballon d'Or the voting history rarely hands to a player without the Champions League or a major international title — four winners of the last 19, and three of those were Messi.
One more August fact cuts both ways. Bayern opened the new season with a 5-1 win over Stuttgart on August 28 and Kane did not score; Gemini, the seat that had him highest in round one at 29%, cut him to 16% after reading the others, reasoning that "September form is noise, as voters judge the closed 2025-26 window." The same logic that protects Kane from a slow start protects Rodri from a slow rehab.
Lamine Yamal, Barcelona: Where The Models Moved Ahead Of The Market
In July this was the line where the panel and the price shook hands: 19 cents against a 23.6% blend. That handshake is over. The market has Yamal at 13 cents, about 7.69 in decimal odds, and the models have him at a 24.5% median, the top number on the board by a hair.
The case is the best of both worlds. At 19, Yamal won La Liga with Barcelona and the 2026 World Cup with Spain, was named LaLiga Player of the Season, and became the first player to appear in a Euros final and a World Cup final before turning 20, winning both. He scored only once in eight World Cup games, but he won the decisive semifinal penalty against France. Opus, whose own board had Yamal on top, called it "the fullest club season on the board — La Liga, Player of the Season, ~47 goal contributions — where Rodri's Golden Ball sits on a thin club year." GPT made the round's biggest revision toward him, 14% to 28%, after reading the others; DeepSeek landed highest at 30% and discounted his goalless league opener because "voters anchor on the July 19 World Cup and the full season."
The wrinkle is the same one the models flagged in July, only now it is the whole race. Yamal and Rodri are competing for the same electorate, and the panel's honest answer is that it cannot separate them: four seats lean Yamal, four lean Rodri, a quarter-point gap at the median. Opus argued the ballot is a ranked top ten, not a single vote, so "both Spaniards ride high on the same cards and the split leaks far less than the group assumes." If that is right, Yamal's 13 cents carries the largest positive model-vs-market gap among the serious contenders. If the split is real and Kane walks through it, 13 cents is fair. Either way, the models think a World Cup winner with the fullest club season on the board should not be priced at 7.69 in decimal odds.
That is the argument. Now the board.

These are model estimates, not predictions of fact and not financial advice. The Median column is the seat median of the eight model numbers in its row, after a revision round where each model read the other seven's anonymized reasoning. The last column is a directional gap, the median percentage minus the raw market price in cents; it mixes a model number from a distribution that sums to 100 per seat with an un-adjusted price, so read it as direction and size, not a precise edge. Market figures are raw YES last-trade prices from Kalshi's public market feed, fetched August 30, 2026; because each of the 31 contracts trades in its own order book with a bid/ask spread, the raw prices sum to about 124 cents rather than 100. Each contract resolves YES only if its player wins the award, and the whole board settles on October 26, 2026, once the winner is announced in London. Each seat also set aside a share, about 1.5% at the median, for a winner off Kalshi's list entirely. Treat anything under about 2% as a tail estimate, not a distinct read.
The row to sit with is Kylian Mbappe's, because it is the one place the market and the models agree on a big name. Re-scale his 11 cents against the 124-cent total and he lands near 9%; the panel's median is 8%. He won the World Cup Golden Boot with 10 goals and became the tournament's all-time leading scorer, but Real Madrid finished the season without a trophy and France finished fourth, and his own line, "I would have preferred not to be the top scorer and to have played in the final," reads like a man who knows how the vote works. The low number is agreement, not an edge.
Then the traps, where the table would mislead you:
- Rodri at +19 is the biggest positive raw model-vs-market gap on the board, and the caveat is liquidity. Fewer than 800 of his contracts changed hands in the past 24 hours. A 5-cent price on a thin book is as much an absence of buyers as a verdict, and you may not get in or out at your number.
- Vitinha (1¢, median 4.0%) and Ousmane Dembele (2¢, median 4.0%) are the two PSG names the models still want that the market has forgotten, though the panel trimmed both since July, Vitinha from 6.8% and Dembele from 5.6%. Both have a real case: PSG retained the Champions League and won Ligue 1, Vitinha was the final's Player of the Match, and Dembele of France and Paris Saint-Germain is the reigning winner. But 1 cent is the exchange's minimum tick, Dembele started only 11 league games, and every seat flagged that PSG's deep contender list splits its own votes three ways with no Golden Ball to anchor it.
- The bottom of the table is thin. From Haaland down, the per-seat numbers are low-conviction tail estimates; treat the ordering there as far less meaningful than the top tier.
More live boards from the same panel: Super Bowl 2027 Champion: the Rams trade at about 17¢. World Series 2026 Champion: the Dodgers at about 30¢. NBA 2027 Champion: the Thunder at about 23¢ and the Spurs at about 22¢. Heisman Trophy 2026: CJ Carr at about 12¢. Prices fetched August 31, 2026.
A note on the panel. All eight of the panel's seats ran this board on August 30, 2026: Claude Fable, Claude Opus, Claude Sonnet, GPT, Gemini, GLM, Kimi, and DeepSeek. Each priced the whole 31-player field in one pass without seeing any prices, from a hand-verified card of the season's trophies, the World Cup results, and the post-season news, then revised once after reading the other seven's anonymized reasoning. The July run this page originally carried used five seats, and its headline number was the mean; this run's is the median of eight. Held to the original five seats alone, Kane's number still moves from 7% to about 18%. Every number lands in our back-tested Model Verdict ledger, where past price-blind calls are graded against settled results. Market prices on this page refresh as the race moves toward October 26; the model numbers are frozen at this run until the next re-score trigger, which is the shortlist announcement.

How To Read These Prices
The models can tell you where they part from the crowd, but the number in front of you still has to be understood in context, and this board has two contexts: the spread and the calendar.
Work an example. Say a contract shows Kane's 65-cent YES price. That is not a clean "65% chance." Each of the 31 contracts trades in its own order book with a bid/ask spread, so across a mutually exclusive field the listed YES prices sum to well over 100. Here they add up to about 124 cents. To get closer to fair, compare each name's price to that sum and re-scale: Kane's 65 cents works out closer to 52%, Yamal's 13 closer to 10%, and Rodri's 5 cents closer to 4%. The models' 24% on each Spaniard against those re-scaled numbers is where they see the daylight. The re-scaling is a rough approximation, and this board hides a second layer under it: 24 of the 31 contracts currently show no bid at all, so their one-cent last trades are stale prints rather than live prices. Value those at a half-cent mid and the field sums closer to 112, which pushes Kane nearer 58%. The honest version of the re-scale makes the market's conviction look bigger, not smaller. In decimal odds, a 65-cent contract pays like 1.54, a 13-cent contract like 7.69, and a 5-cent contract like 20.0.
That habit is de-vigging: stripping the book's overround out of a price before you judge it. It is a close cousin of line shopping, where you compare the same market across books, and of converting Kalshi's cents into real odds before comparing them to anything. OddsShopper's tools cover sportsbook game lines rather than season-award futures, so for the daily slate our live odds screen and free expert picks today do the price-comparison work, while the Ballon d'Or shopping itself happens on Kalshi. Our method-cousin, the 2026 Heisman Trophy model verdict, scores that award field the same price-blind way.
Then the calendar, which is the reason to refresh this page rather than read it once. Three dated things can move this board before the Ballon d'Or 2026 ceremony in London on October 26, and every seat named at least one:
- The shortlist. France Football's 30-man list has not been published as of August 31. A top-four name missing from it goes to zero and, by the seats' own reckoning, Kane absorbs most of the share; a list that arrives with heavy Yamal or Rodri framing tilts the Spain split.
- Rodri's return. A clean comeback by mid-September kills the drift narrative and, by the seats' own numbers, is worth four to six points back to him by one seat's own estimate. A rehab that runs into October with a public contract standoff on top pushes those points to Yamal and Kane.
- Kane's autumn. The seats disagree on whether September goals matter, but a scoring tear plus visible English press campaigning is the one thing that moves his 18% toward the low twenties, and October voter reporting or any credible leak will move the prices faster than the fundamentals.
A few honest points before reading too much into any number above. Kalshi is a CFTC-regulated event-contract exchange, not a sportsbook; you must be 18 or older and in an eligible state, and availability varies by state and can change. Most of this field trades at a single cent with light volume, so the price on the longshots is softer than one number suggests, and this market does not settle until October 26, so any position ties up capital for nearly two months. Everything here is analysis for information, not a recommendation to trade.
Which brings the board back to where it started. In July the market and the models disagreed about one man, and both have spent August moving toward each other on him, the market from 58 to 65 and the panel from 7 to 18, without ever meeting. What changed is everything around Kane: the models no longer have a single favorite to set against him, they have a Spain pair they cannot split, and the market has priced that pair as if a post-World Cup back operation and Yamal's goalless opener could rewrite the season being judged. They cannot: the opener came after the window closed on July 31, and the surgery, three days before the cutoff, did not change Rodri's completed World Cup or club-season resume. The shortlist is the next real information, and until it arrives, who will win the 2026 Ballon d'Or is still argued in one number: a 65-cent striker whom eight price-blind models put under 20%. Verdicts re-scored August 30, 2026, after a revision round; the original July 29, 2026 run is preserved in the ledger. Prices from Kalshi's public market feed, August 30, 2026.
