Rodri has started Barcelona's last three league games, including a full 90 minutes at Levante on September 13. Our panel said in August that a clean comeback from his back surgery was worth four to six points back to him. The comeback arrived, and Kalshi cut his Ballon d'Or price from 5 cents to 4.
That same panel, scoring this field price-blind, has him at 24.3 percent. The market has him at 4.
It has not been wrong about everything. On August 30 the panel put Lamine Yamal at a 24.5 percent median while Kalshi had him at 13 cents; he is 24 cents today. Over the same three weeks Harry Kane gave back every cent he had gained, 65 down to 58. The crowd walked onto the panel's number on one Spaniard and away from it on the other.

Yamal is the graded one. The panel had him top of the board at 24.5% when the crowd had him ninth-of-a-dollar cheap, and the crowd has since arrived at 24. Kane is halfway there: the models fade him to 18% and the price has come off seven cents toward that without getting close. Mbappe drifted a cent the other way and is the one big name where market and models still broadly agree.
Rodri is the gap that refused to close. The panel has him at 24.3%, a quarter-point behind Yamal. The market has him at 4 cents, a point lower than in August, and it got there while the two things the panel said would lift him both happened.
Messi is the new one going the other way. He was 2 cents in August against a 3% panel median, and he is 7 cents now, nominated for the first time since 2023. The models never priced a sentimental vote.

The Shortlist Landed, And It Cost The Panel Nothing
France Football published the 30-man list on September 8, and this page had it as the first of three things that could move the board. The August write-up said a top-four name missing from it goes to zero and Kane absorbs most of the share. No top-four name missed. Kane, Yamal, Mbappe, Rodri and Messi all made it, and the board's shape survived intact.
What it did do is clear the floor. Fourteen Kalshi contracts settled NO the moment the list came out — Pedri, Bukayo Saka, Phil Foden, Mohamed Salah, Cristiano Ronaldo, Desire Doue, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Cole Palmer, Bradley Barcola, Raphinha, Marcus Rashford, Rayan Cherki, Tijjani Reijnders and Scott McTominay. The panel's highest number among them was Pedri at 2.0%, so the elimination cost the model board almost nothing and removed most of the dead one-cent prints that were distorting the field's math.
One new wrinkle for the vote-split argument: PSG placed 10 nominees on the list, by far the most of any club, including last year's winner Ousmane Dembele. A club bloc that size pulls on the same ranked ballots the Spain pair are fighting over.
What Actually Wins A Ballon d'Or
The 2026 Ballon d'Or covers the season from August 2025 to July 2026 and is voted on by one journalist per FIFA top-100 nation, under three stated criteria: individual and decisive performance, collective achievements and trophies, and class and fair play. Hand eight models the field blind and their rationales keep landing on the same three forces.
Major trophies, weighted toward the biggest ones. The Champions League and, in a tournament summer, the World Cup carry the most voting weight. Sky Sports counted it: only four of the past 19 winners lacked a major trophy that year, and three of the four were Lionel Messi.
This is a World Cup year. Spain beat Argentina 1-0 after extra time in the final on July 19, so the summer's biggest stage belongs to Spain's core. The rationales kept reaching for the same shelf of precedents — Cannavaro in 2006, Messi in 2023, Modric in 2018, Ronaldo in 2002. Cannavaro and Messi won those years without a Champions League; Modric, the exception, paired his Champions League title with the World Cup Golden Ball, though Croatia lost the final.
Individual output only goes so far without a team trophy. Voters notice goals, but a huge scoring line on a team that won nothing continental rarely wins the award outright. Robert Lewandowski's 2021 season was the recurring cautionary tale.
Rodri: The Catalyst Fired And The Price Fell
In July, Rodri was the panel's conviction pick at a 34% blend. The August re-score cut him to 24.3% and stopped there, and the two reasons it stopped short have both since resolved in his favour.
The August card had him three days past minor back surgery on July 28, with no published return date and no competitive minute recorded, plus an expiring contract and reported Real Madrid interest. GPT put the haircut plainly: the Golden Ball "is the strongest single credential, but his club case is much thinner, he already won in 2024, and the post-season back surgery/contract noise slightly hurts salience with September voters."
Both halves of that noise are gone. Rodri joined Barcelona in mid-August on a deal to 2030, turning Real Madrid down to do it. And he is fit. He came off the bench for 28 minutes against Athletic Club on August 27 and 27 against Rayo Vallecano on August 31, then started in central midfield three times running: 61 minutes at Valencia on September 6, the full 90 at Levante on September 13, and 60 more against Racing Sant on September 16. Barcelona won all five.
That is the clean comeback by mid-September the panel said was worth four to six points back to him. Kalshi has taken a cent off him since.
The case on merit never depended on any of it. The award judges August 2025 to July 2026, when Rodri won the 2026 World Cup with Spain and the tournament's Golden Ball, starting all eight matches, having already won the 2024 Ballon d'Or. Sonnet, the seat that held him highest at 28%, called that pairing "the two rarest assets at once — World Cup winner and Golden Ball — the closest precedent match (Cannavaro 2006, Messi 2023) in the field." The case against is bounded and unchanged: his club season at City brought the FA Cup and the League Cup but not the Premier League or a Champions League run past the last 16, and a second Ballon d'Or so soon after 2024 is rare company.
As GLM put it in August, the surgery created "recency drag even though voters judge a closed window," and that drag was worth about ten points to the panel. There is no drag left to price. The market has him at four cents anyway.
Harry Kane: The Fade The Market Is Starting To Share
Kane is the reason this page exists, and he has come off the boil. Kalshi had him at 58 cents in early August, bid him to 65 by the end of the month, and has walked him back to 58.
The models never bought the run. They moved him from 7% to 18% in the August re-score — their biggest single revision — and stopped well short. Against his re-scaled price today, roughly 49% on the raw board, that is a fade of about 30 points, still the widest on the board.
This is not a knock on his season. Kane scored 61 goals in 51 Bayern appearances, 36 of them in the Bundesliga for a third straight top-scorer crown, won the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal double, and took the European Golden Shoe by nine goals over Erling Haaland. Club and country together, 73 goals in 65 games, the second-best scoring season by anyone since 2000 behind only Messi's 82 in 2011-12. He added six World Cup goals as England finished third, their best since 1966.
The seats that raised him did so for the vote-split, not the goals. No rival with a comparable case pulls on Kane's ballots — Michael Olise is the only Bayern name near him. As Sonnet put it, "his candidacy is uniquely unsplit and his domestic double plus England's best WC finish since 1966 is more than 'scoring alone.'" But every seat hit the same wall: Kane did not win the Champions League, where Bayern lost to PSG in the semifinal, and England lost the World Cup semifinal to Argentina. Fable summarized the ceiling: "Lewandowski 2021 shows an all-time scoring season without UCL or international silverware has never carried a non-Messi player." Kane himself has said "the Ballon d'Or is not in my hands."
A 58-cent price bakes in a Ballon d'Or the voting history rarely hands to a player without the Champions League or a major international title. Four winners of the last 19, and three of those were Messi.
Lamine Yamal: The Call That Graded
In July this was the line where the panel and the price shook hands: 19 cents against a 23.6% blend. In August the market ran away from it, down to 13, and the panel held at 24.5%. Three weeks later the market is at 24.
At 19, Yamal won La Liga with Barcelona and the 2026 World Cup with Spain, was named LaLiga Player of the Season, and became the first player to appear in a Euros final and a World Cup final before turning 20, winning both. He scored once in eight World Cup games but won the decisive semifinal penalty against France. Opus, whose own board had Yamal on top, called it "the fullest club season on the board — La Liga, Player of the Season, ~47 goal contributions — where Rodri's Golden Ball sits on a thin club year." GPT made the round's biggest revision toward him, 14% to 28%; DeepSeek landed highest at 30%.
The Spain split is still the race, and the panel still cannot call it: four seats lean Yamal, four lean Rodri, a quarter-point gap at the median. Since August the two of them have become club teammates as well, which cuts both ways and which no seat priced: a shared Barcelona campaign keeps both names in front of voters, and it also puts them on the same cards for anyone ranking by club.
What has changed is that the market now agrees with the panel on one of them and not the other. If the ranked ballot leaks less than the crowd assumes, Rodri at 4 cents is the position the panel's work actually points at. If the split is real and Kane walks through it, the market has this right and the models are paying twice for one World Cup.
How To Read These Prices
October voter reporting. The seats agreed that a credible leak moves prices faster than the fundamentals do, and there are five weeks of it left. Watch whether any of it mentions a Barcelona midfielder who won the World Cup and is currently the fifth choice on this board.
Kalshi is a CFTC-regulated event-contract exchange, not a sportsbook; you must be 18 or older and in an eligible state, and availability varies. Most of this field trades at a single cent with light volume, so the price on the longshots is softer than one number suggests, and this market does not settle until October 26. Everything here is analysis, not a recommendation to trade.
In August the market and the models disagreed about three names. The crowd has since come to the panel's number on Yamal, moved seven cents toward it on Kane, and gone further the other way on Rodri. Both events that were supposed to settle the argument have now passed: the shortlist eliminated nobody either side cared about, and Rodri answered the fitness question with three starts and a full 90.
That leaves the race almost exactly where the models left it, minus the excuse. A Spain pair the panel cannot separate, now sharing a dressing room. A striker it thinks is overpriced by 30 points. And a World Cup Golden Ball winner at 4 cents, healthy, playing every week, whom eight price-blind models make a one-in-four shot.
