The Read
Arizona, with the points. As of Tuesday, September 8, 2026, Kalshi has the Chargers at 81 to 82 cents to win and the Cardinals at 18 to 19; most books have Los Angeles -9.5 with a 47.5 total, and DraftKings is down to -8.5. The Chargers' offense scored 21.6 points a game last year (20th) and gave up a sack on 9.6% of dropbacks (28th); a team like that lays double digits on its defense, and the number has moved two points toward Arizona since May. My pick is Cardinals +9.5 at the book, and the better version is on Kalshi: "no" on "Los Angeles wins by over 10.5" at 56 cents, a point more.

Where the money is. At DraftKings, as of September 8, 63% of the spread bets are on the Chargers, but 64% of the money is on Arizona +9.5; the bigger bets are on the dog. The total is more lopsided: 57% of the bets and 96% of the money are on the under.
What The Market Is Weighing
Arizona is a different team than the one that went 3-14, and the market can't price it yet. The Cardinals fired Jonathan Gannon and hired Mike LaFleur, the Rams' offensive coordinator, then cut Kyler Murray in March. Jacoby Brissett is the Week 1 starter, with $15 million of his deal locked in and Gardner Minshew and Carson Beck behind him; in 13 games last year he was pressured on 27.5% of his dropbacks and sacked 43 times. Jeremiyah Love, the third overall pick, sprained an ankle in the first preseason game and is back doing side work; Tyler Allgeier is listed first at running back and James Conner is on injured reserve with the foot that cost him fourteen games last year. Arizona's offense threw for 256.2 yards a game (5th) and ran for 93.3 (31st); the defense allowed 28.7 points (29th), a 44.8% third-down rate (29th), and hit the quarterback on 11.6% of dropbacks (29th).
The Chargers' line is the weak spot on a good team. Justin Herbert was sacked 60 times last year, pressured on nearly 30% of his dropbacks, and the Chargers still went 11-7. Rashawn Slater missed all of 2025 with a ruptured patellar tendon and returned to practice as a limited participant. Center Tyler Biadasz tore his ACL in a joint practice and is on season-ending injured reserve; rookie Jake Slaughter has the reps. Mike McDaniel calls the plays now, his first game doing it for Herbert. The defense is the reason for the 82 cents: 20.0 points a game allowed (9th), 195.1 passing yards (4th), a 35.2% third-down rate against it (5th), 2.59 plays of 20-plus yards allowed a game (2nd), and a sack on 8.2% of opponent dropbacks (6th). The offense was ordinary: 21.6 points (20th), 5.27 yards a play (20th), and Herbert sacked on 9.6% of dropbacks (28th).
The line moved toward Arizona. DraftKings opened this at Chargers -11.5 in May and it's -10.5 now, with the Arizona moneyline shortening from +470 to +455, and the total going the other way, from 45.5 up to 46.5. On Kalshi, "Los Angeles by 11 or more" trades at 46-47 cents; "by 14 or more" at 41-43; the nickel between them is the price of 11, 12 and 13.

The Pick
Laying the 10.5 has a straightforward case. A 50-sack defense at home against a quarterback who was sacked 43 times in 13 games, behind a line that lost a starting guard in camp, with the running back room down to a healthy Allgeier and a rookie working back from an ankle. Arizona allowed 28 a game on the road last year, and the Chargers' offense doesn't have to be good to win by 11 against that.
But the money is on the other side for a reason. Double digits is a lot to lay with an offense that scored 21.6 a game and took a sack on nearly one dropback in ten. Put that offense against a defense that allowed 28.7 and you get about 25; put Arizona's 20.9 against a defense that allowed 20 and you get about 20. That's a five-point game on the season numbers, a couple more for the home field, and the books are asking for ten, DraftKings for nine, with a rookie center and a left tackle who hasn't played in a year in front of the quarterback. The bigger bets at DraftKings are on Arizona, the line has come down two points, and the last time these teams met, in 2024, Arizona won 17-15 as a one-point dog.
Cardinals +9.5, -105 at Bet365 or -106 at FanDuel, or "no" on "Los Angeles wins by over 10.5" on Kalshi at 56 cents. If Slater is ruled out, the case gets better at the same price.
The total is a pass. Ninety-six percent of the money is on the under and the number went up anyway, so the book isn't scared of that side; Kalshi's over at 48-49 cents says the same.
What Would Change The Picture
Wednesday's report is the first official one. Rashawn Slater has not practiced since early August with what the team calls a knee flare-up; he says it's "nothing concerning," the Chargers want him for this game, and there is no timetable. After that, whether Allgeier is a full-time back.
Bottom Line
The Chargers are the better team by a lot, and the market is asking them to prove it by ten with the parts of the roster that haven't proven anything yet. The bigger money is on the Cardinals, and so am I.
This one settles Sunday, September 13, 2026, at the final score.
