The Read
Minnesota, and I'd lay the short number. As of September 4, 2026, Kalshi has the Vikings at 53 cents to win and the Packers at 47; DraftKings has Minnesota -1.5 with the total at 45.5. Green Bay opens without Josh Jacobs, its lead running back, and Micah Parsons, its best defender, while Minnesota starts Kyler Murray on one preseason drive of tape. My pick is Vikings -1.5, and I'd play it up to -2.5; at 3 I'm out.

What The Market Is Weighing
Three things sit under that 53-47.
Green Bay's roster got shorter twice on one Sunday. On August 30, cut-down day, the NFL placed Josh Jacobs on the commissioner's exempt list over two misdemeanor charges from a May arrest; he cannot practice or play while on it, and the list has no end date. Hours later the team put Micah Parsons on the reserve/PUP list, which rules him out for at least the first four games; the latest reporting points to a Bears or Cowboys game for his return. He had 12.5 sacks in 14 games before the December knee surgery, a third of Green Bay's total. Behind Jacobs are MarShawn Lloyd, who has one NFL game and 15 rushing yards, and Kaleb Johnson, acquired from Pittsburgh the same weekend. The one good injury story is Tucker Kraft, expected to be full-go after last November's ACL tear.
Minnesota made its quarterback call before the preseason started. On August 11, Kevin O'Connell named Kyler Murray the Week 1 starter over J.J. McCarthy. Murray signed a one-year deal in March after Arizona released him, and his entire Vikings tape is one preseason drive: 10 plays, 54 yards, a field goal, his first action since the foot injury that ended his season last October. McCarthy got the August reps instead, 9 of 17 for 115 yards and no touchdowns across two games before an ankle injury against Baltimore kept him out of the finale; he is now splitting second-team reps with Carson Wentz. Justin Jefferson strained a hamstring in camp and was back before the finale; tackle Caleb Tiernan and safety Theo Jackson are trying to get back for this one.
The building has decided this series lately. Minnesota allowed 14.9 points a game at home last season. The home team has won the last two meetings here 16-3 and 23-6, both under the total. Green Bay was 6-12 against the spread a year ago. And the line has moved in two steps: it opened Green Bay -1.5 in May, crossed to Minnesota -1.5 after the Murray announcement, and did not move at all when Green Bay's Sunday news landed; only the Packers' Kalshi price slipped a few cents.
The Pick
Green Bay's side is the quarterback. Jordan Love is the most proven passer in this game by a mile, and the one 2025 meeting he played, Green Bay won 23-6. If you're taking +1.5, that's the argument, and it's the reason I'm not chasing this past -2.5.
But at -1.5 Minnesota only has to win by two, and on Kalshi that contract is 48-49 cents against 53 for the plain win, a cheaper price for a slightly harder outcome. Everything Green Bay lost this week shows up in one-score margins: the runs Jacobs would have banked, the third downs Parsons would have ended. I want the home team, and I'll take the cheaper price and live with a one-point loss.
Vikings -1.5 at DraftKings, or "Minnesota wins by 2 or more" on Kalshi at 48-49 cents. I'd play this up to -2.5. If it walks through to 3, I'm out; at 3 you're paying the league's most common final margin for a quarterback with one drive of tape, and that is a different bet.
On the total, everything above points under 45.5, but the market has already shaded the over to 52 cents and I'm not betting a total on two offenses I haven't seen. Nothing on it.
What Would Change The Picture
The practice reports of September 9-11: whether Lloyd is listed, Jefferson's hamstring, and whether Tiernan and Jackson make it back for Minnesota. A league ruling on Jacobs: the exempt list has no end date, and a suspension would say how long Green Bay's backfield stays improvised. The walk toward 3: a division game at -1.5 goes to pick'em or to -3, and whichever comes first decides whether my number survives the week.
Bottom Line
A home favorite got the best news of its opponent's summer and still couldn't lay a full field goal. That's the doubt about Kyler Murray, priced. I'll take the short number while it's short and check back after the September 9 practice report.
This one settles Sunday, September 13, 2026, at the final score.
