The Eagles have lost three straight, and the way they've lost is worse: blown out by Case Keenum and the Bears, a double-digit halftime lead blown against the Rams, then a lead with eight seconds left against Jacksonville in London. Jake Elliott slammed his helmet on the sideline. Here's the thing: the NFC East stinks, and this division is still wide open. I don't think Philadelphia loses four in a row: Eagles +1.

The Game Lines

A Coin Flip With Weird Numbers

This line looks different everywhere. Some books have the Eagles favored by one, others the Panthers by one, and some have Philadelphia +1.5 at a heavy price. It's as close to a pick'em as you'll find, so shop around.

Philadelphia's run game is the concern: 1.2 yards a carry against Jacksonville with 44% of runs stuffed. Saquon Barkley and DeVonta Smith (both hamstrings) are questionable and look likely to return. Lane Johnson retired and Cam Jurgens was traded in the same week, so the pass blocking has been bad. Carolina doesn't have an elite pass rush, so the Eagles may get away with it this week.

Carolina Is Good, With A Weakness

The Panthers come off a bye after beating Detroit 32-26. Tetairoa McMillan caught 14 passes for 192 and two touchdowns, Chuba Hubbard ran for 122 and two scores, and Bryce Young looks like a totally different quarterback than the one from his first two seasons. They still struggle to pass block.

The Wrinkle

Here's what makes me uncomfortable. Philadelphia comes home from London on a normal week, and Carolina comes in off its bye. Since 2005, home teams the week after an international game, facing a team off its bye, are 0-3 straight up and against the spread: Buffalo in 2011, Houston in 2016 and Miami in 2021. That's three games. Teams the week after an international game are 28-18-1 overall, so I won't make too much of it.

Normally I'd be all over Carolina here. The Eagles have been competitive in every loss, though. Their defense keeps holding good offenses to very few points, and if they drop a fourth straight this early, heads start to roll. I'm going against the history.

Injury Report

• Saquon Barkley and DeVonta Smith (PHI). Both questionable (hamstrings) and trending toward playing.
• Philadelphia's offensive line. Lane Johnson retired and Cam Jurgens was traded to Baltimore. Jalyx Hunt is doubtful (ankle).
• Carolina. Jalen Coker (quad) and Jaelan Phillips (hamstring) are questionable.
