Before Sunday's 4:25 p.m. kickoff, the Kalshi contract that pays if the Arizona Cardinals win five or more games this season was quoted at 38 cents bid, 45 asked. By Monday morning it was 58 bid, 65 asked. In between, Arizona beat the Chargers 26-14 at SoFi Stadium, which ESPN Research called the biggest Week 1 upset since Tampa Bay beat New Orleans in 2018.
A team that went 3-14 last year and released its franchise quarterback this offseason now has a five-win contract priced above 50 cents. Nine AI models priced the same season without seeing a single quote, and every one of them landed above Kalshi's midpoint on every rung from two wins through eight.
The question underneath both numbers is whether one Sunday outweighs last season, when Arizona went 1-11 in the 12 games where the same quarterback threw at least 15 passes. The market gave Sunday some weight. The models gave it more, and they can name the games.

How One Upset Repriced Arizona's Ladder
Kalshi does not post one Cardinals win total. It lists a separate yes-or-no contract for every threshold, from one win up to 17. Each pays $1 if Arizona gets there and nothing if it does not, so a price of 61 cents reads as roughly a 61% chance. The one-win contract has already paid out. Across the ladder, 235,311 contracts have traded and about 163,000 are still open.
The middle rungs barely moved all week, then jumped in one night:
- Thursday Afternoon. Four wins sat at 59 bid, 61 asked. Five wins was 40 and 42, six wins 31 and 32.
- Just Before Sunday's Kickoff. Four wins: 58 and 62. Five wins: 38 and 45. Six wins: 27 and 30.
- Monday Morning. Four wins: 75 and 79. Five wins: 58 and 65. Six wins: 43 and 53.
Most of the trading after the game happened on the four- and six-win contracts. After the final whistle at 7:24 p.m. Eastern, 2,669 contracts on four wins changed hands overnight at prices between 73 and 84 cents. On six wins, 839 contracts traded and buyers took 808 of them. The five-win rung is the odd one: its quote moved about 20 cents, but only 233 contracts traded on it after the game.
The game gave them plenty to price. Arizona ran 72 plays to the Chargers' 51 and held the ball for 37 minutes and 31 seconds. Jacoby Brissett completed 27 of 37 passes for 277 yards and a touchdown, and Trey McBride caught nine of his 13 targets for 95 yards and a score. Safety Andrew Wingard forced a fumble and intercepted a pass. The Chargers' four fourth-quarter possessions ended in a blocked punt, an interception and two turnovers on downs, one at the Arizona 3, per the AP recap. Mike LaFleur became the first Cardinals coach to win his debut since Don Coryell in 1973.
The game market had its own story before kickoff: someone kept selling Los Angeles all week.

The Team LaFleur Inherited
Last season's Cardinals went 3-14, scored 355 points and allowed 488. Being outscored by 133 points usually belongs to a team that wins about 5.4 games, so the record was worse than the play. The injuries were part of it: Marvin Harrison Jr. played 12 games and James Conner missed 14.
The offseason changed the coach, moved on from Kyler Murray and reshaped a long list of starters, per Pro Football Rumors' offseason review:
- Jonathan Gannon Was Fired. LaFleur, the Rams' offensive coordinator last season, replaced him. General manager Monti Ossenfort stayed.
- Kyler Murray Was Released with a post-June 1 designation that leaves $54.3 million in dead money.
- Brissett Was Named The Starter on a reworked one-year deal. Gardner Minshew signed as the backup.
- Veterans Signed On Both Sides Of The Ball. Guard Isaac Seumalo, running back Tyler Allgeier, receiver Kendrick Bourne and defensive tackle Roy Lopez joined. Running back Jeremiyah Love went third overall.
- The Defense Lost Two Veterans. Calais Campbell left for Baltimore and safety Jalen Thompson for Dallas. Cornerback Garrett Williams, who tore an Achilles on December 21, is still listed out.
- The Injury List Reaches The Offense Too. Conner and second-round guard Chase Bisontis are on injured reserve.
The quarterback history is the tension inside every forecast. Brissett was already Arizona's starter for most of 2025. In the 12 games where he threw at least 15 passes, the Cardinals went 1-11. In Murray's five such games, they went 2-3. Sunday was his first regular-season start for LaFleur.
History offers a useful frame. We pulled every NFL team-season from 2011 through 2025 and counted how often teams reached each win total, adjusted to a 17-game schedule.
| Group | Teams | 5+ wins | 6+ wins | 7+ wins | 8+ wins |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Every Team | 480 | 84.6% | 77.3% | 69.6% | 57.1% |
| Coming Off A Season Of 4.5 Wins Or Fewer | 71 | 73.2% | 60.6% | 52.1% | 35.2% |
| Won Week 1 After A Season Of 4.5 Wins Or Fewer | 21 | 81.0% | 81.0% | 71.4% | 52.4% |
The last row is the closest the record book gets to Arizona, and its 21 teams went everywhere. The 2017 Rams finished 11-5, the 2019 49ers 13-3 and last year's Jaguars 13-4. The 2021 Texans went 4-13, the 2015 Titans 3-13 and last year's Raiders 3-14. None of them paired a first-year head coach with a released franchise quarterback and a returning starter who had already struggled. All nine models priced seven wins below that row's 71.4%, and all nine priced eight wins below its 52.4%.

The Board
We handed the ladder to nine AI models: Claude Fable, Claude Opus, Claude Sonnet, ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok, Kimi, GLM and DeepSeek. None saw a price. Each built one forecast of Arizona's final win total and read every rung off it, then read the other eight models' reasoning with the names hidden and chose whether to revise. The table lists each rung through eight wins with Kalshi's live quote, the last quote before Sunday's kickoff, and the middle answer of the nine models.
| Wins | Kalshi midpoint now | Bid / ask now | Before kickoff | Panel |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2+ | 97¢ | 95 / 99 | 90 / 97 | 99% |
| 3+ | 91¢ | 89 / 93 | 69 / 77 | 96.5% |
| 4+ | 77¢ | 75 / 79 | 58 / 62 | 91% |

| 7+ | 35.5¢ | 23 / 48 | 15 / 22 | 52.5% |
| 8+ | 23.5¢ | 4 / 43 | 6 / 15 | 37.5% |
Kalshi quotes as of September 14, 2026, 10:37 a.m. ET (Monday); "before kickoff" is the last hourly quote before 4:25 p.m. ET Sunday. The panel figure is the panel blend: the seat median of the nine models after the revision round. These are market prices and model estimates, not predictions of fact and not financial advice.

Start with the four- and five-win rows, because those two contracts hold about 70,000 of the ladder's open contracts. The panel sits 14 points above the market's midpoint on four wins and 20.5 points above it on five. The widest gap is six wins: 70% against 48 cents. The seven- and eight-win quotes are too wide to read as a single price (a 23-cent bid and a 48-cent ask on seven), and the rungs from nine wins up are wider still, which is why they are left off.
Add the rungs together and you get an expected win total, counting the win already banked. Using the midpoint through seven wins and the real bids above that, Kalshi's ladder comes to about 5.2 wins. The panel's comes to 6.7.

Every seat on this panel is graded against real market settlements — records to date: Gemini 86% on 9,496 graded calls · Grok 84% on 7,920 graded calls · Kimi 86% on 4,894 graded calls · GLM 84% on 4,494 graded calls · DeepSeek 84% on 4,511 graded calls. Recomputed daily; the full scoreboard is public.
All nine seats put Arizona's median season at exactly seven wins, so every seven-win number sits at or above 50%, from ChatGPT's 50% to Sonnet's 65%. Each seat stated its reasons for stopping at seven rather than eight: the soft games it could name on one side, Brissett's 1-11 and the injury list on the other.
The agreement runs deeper than the median. Every seat's four-, five- and six-win numbers sit above Kalshi's midpoint on those rungs. The real spread is in the upper rungs: Sonnet gives eight wins a 49% chance and projects 7.5, while four seats hold eight wins at 35%.

Where The Panel Changed Its Mind
In the revision round each model saw the others' reasoning labeled only as Forecaster A, B, C and so on. Four seats moved their median up from six wins to seven, one came down from eight, and four held.
Gemini made the biggest move on seven wins, lifting it from 41% to 55%:
"Forecaster A convinced me to raise my median to 7. In R1, I anchored too heavily on the 3-14 result." — Gemini
Opus moved for a reason it found in the historical table rather than in another model's opinion. Teams coming off a season of 4.5 wins or fewer reached seven wins 52% of the time, and its round-one number was 48%:
"My 48% after a road win put Arizona too far below that group." — Opus
Sonnet went the other way. It opened with the panel's highest ladder, 70.5% on seven wins, and cut that to 65% after reading the others:
"my round-1 median of 8 sat at the reference class's mean despite my own reasoning treating QB as neutral, which was an internal inconsistency the peer set exposed." — Sonnet
DeepSeek held every number, and its reason is the cleanest statement of the case against chasing Sunday:
"One game is too thin to override his track record and the current injury pile." — DeepSeek
Where Seven Wins Would Have To Come From
Arizona has 16 games left, and the schedule splits almost in half. Eight are against teams that won 10 or more games last season: Seattle and San Francisco twice each, the Rams twice, Denver and Philadelphia. Six are against teams that won six or fewer: the Giants (4-13), Kansas City (6-11), Washington (5-12), the Jets (3-14), New Orleans (6-11) and Las Vegas (3-14). Detroit and Dallas sit in between.
The seats' short lists of likely wins overlap almost exactly. Fable named the Giants, Kansas City, Washington, the Jets, New Orleans and Las Vegas; Grok named the same group without Kansas City. Five of those plus the banked win gets Arizona to six. The seventh has to come from Kansas City, Dallas, Detroit or an upset inside the division, and every seat priced that seventh win as less likely than the first six.
The first test is immediate. Arizona hosts Seattle, the defending Super Bowl champion, on September 20, and Kalshi prices a Cardinals win at 32 cents bid, 34 asked.

What Would Change The Panel's Mind
Four things, each one checkable, each with the direction it pushes.
- Seattle On September 20. A win banks a second game against a team neither short list above included. A lopsided loss supports the seats that read Sunday as one good day against a Chargers team that had receiver Ladd McConkey and defensive back Elijah Molden hurt in the game. Pushes both ways, and hardest.
- Brissett's Health. He is the starter on a one-year deal, and behind him are Minshew, who threw for 37 yards in four games with Kansas City last season, and rookie Carson Beck, who is listed out. Losing Brissett for any stretch would hit every rung from six wins up. Pushes down.
- The Secondary Injury Report. Williams and safety Dadrion Taylor-Demerson are out, and safety Kitan Crawford was carted off in the fourth quarter on Sunday. Several seats cited defensive depth as the reason to cap eight wins and above. Pushes the upper rungs down.
- October 4 At The Giants. It is the first game on the short lists above, and the Giants also won their opener. A loss there removes one of the five soft games the panel's seven-win median depends on. Pushes down on a loss, up on a win.

The Bottom Line
Arizona fired its coach, released its quarterback, kept the passer from last season's 1-11 stretch and then won by 12 on the road in Week 1. Overnight, the five-win quote moved from the low 40s to the low 60s, and the four- and six-win contracts carried most of the trading.
Nine models that never saw those prices started from the same facts and landed at seven wins, every one of them. Their ladder adds up to about 6.7 wins; Kalshi's comes to about 5.2.
Seattle on September 20 is the next result on the board, and October 4 at the Giants is the first of the games the models named.
