Was the 45-leg Kalshi parlay that paid $3,087 on $18 real? Yes. Every one of the 45 contracts is on Kalshi's public board, settled Yes, with a trade log behind it. It was also a bad bet, and the exchange's own prices say so: the last trade on each leg before its kickoff multiplies out to 0.33¢ to buy a dollar of payout, which is one chance in 302, and the card was priced at 0.61¢, one chance in 164. The trader paid 1.8 times the product of the legs. A fair quote on the same $18.83 would have paid about $4,737 on the day-before prices and $5,681 at kickoff; the card paid $3,087.36.
Prices from Kalshi's public API, pulled September 13, 2026, 8:52 p.m. ET: the trade log and candles on all 45 contracts, matched to the card by team and opponent, with kickoff times from ESPN. The card was posted to Kalshi's social feed and shared on X on September 13.

Every Leg Has A Ticker
Every leg on the card is a separate Kalshi contract with a public ticker, a trade log and a settlement. Kalshi's combo rules, updated June 20, 2026, say a combo is its own market, priced through a request for quote, that pays the product of the legs with a maximum of $1 per contract and settles one to twelve hours after the last leg. A card with 45 green checks is the exchange rendering 45 finalized Yes settlements, and all 45 are on the public board. Nothing on it is the trader's claim; it is the exchange's record.
Forty-five legs is the natural shape of the product, not a stunt. The combo price is the legs multiplied, so the only road from a few dollars to a four-figure payout is stacking favorites until the product gets small. This card was not a wall of 99-cent locks, though: 11 legs traded at 97 cents or better before kickoff, 12 between 90 and 97, 13 between 80 and 90, and 9 below 80 cents. The 9 under 80 cents are below.
The Nine Legs That Carried The Risk
| Leg | Contract | Kickoff | Day before | Last trade before kickoff |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 26 | Bucknell to win (vs VMI) | Sat 1:30 p.m. | 77¢ | 72¢ |
| 44 | BYU to win (vs Arizona) | Sat 3:30 p.m. | 73¢ | 72¢ |
| 16 | Hawai'i to win (vs New Mexico St.) | Sat 11:59 p.m. | 73¢ | 73¢ |
| 36 | Bethune-Cookman to win (vs Stetson) | Sat 5:15 p.m. | 86¢ | 74¢ |
| 15 | UAB to win (vs Louisiana-Monroe) | Sat 3:30 p.m. | 76¢ | 76¢ |
| 18 | Boise St. to win (vs Memphis) | Sat 6:00 p.m. | 76¢ | 76¢ |
| 29 | Tulane to win (vs South Alabama) | Sat 7:00 p.m. | 76¢ | 76¢ |
| 43 | Alabama to win (vs Kentucky) | Sat 3:30 p.m. | 78¢ | 77¢ |
| 41 | Kent St. to win (vs Wofford) | Sat 12:00 p.m. | 80¢ | 79¢ |
Multiply those 9 and you get 7.5¢; the other 36 legs together multiply to 4.4¢ and take the card to 0.33¢. The 9 decided whether it cashed; the other 36 multiplied the payout by 23 and the quote by more than that.
What The Ticket Was Worth
A combo priced at 0.61¢ has to win more than 0.61 percent of the time to break even. The legs said 0.33 percent at kickoff, 0.40 percent on the day-before closes, and 0.40 percent on the asks in the last hour before each game. Whichever stamp you take, the quote was 1.5 to 1.8 times the fair price. On $18.83 the expected payout was $10.23, an expected loss of $8.60, before Kalshi's trading fee of $1.32 on the order. The fee is not the story; the quote is. A fair quote would have paid $5,681 for the same $18.83, and the card paid $3,087. It cashed anyway, which is what a 1-in-302 shot looks like the one time it lands.

The Favorites Tax
Two things compound on a favorites parlay. The first is arithmetic: a leg at 95 cents looks safe alone and costs you five percent of your product every time you add one. The second is the quote. A combo is not priced by a formula; a market participant answers the request for quote, and on this card the answer was 1.8 times the product of the legs. Here is what a favorites parlay is worth per dollar of payout, before any quote markup, at each average leg price:
| Legs | At 80¢ a leg | At 88¢ (this card) | At 90¢ | At 95¢ | At 99¢ |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2 | 64¢ | 77.4¢ | 81¢ | 90.2¢ | 98¢ |
| 5 | 32.8¢ | 52.8¢ | 59.0¢ | 77.4¢ | 95.1¢ |
| 10 | 10.7¢ | 27.9¢ | 34.9¢ | 59.9¢ | 90.4¢ |
| 20 | 1.2¢ | 7.8¢ | 12.2¢ | 35.8¢ | 81.8¢ |
| 45 | 0.00¢ | 0.32¢ | 0.87¢ | 9.9¢ | 63.6¢ |
This card averaged 88.1¢ a leg, and 45 legs at that average is the 0.33¢ in the bottom row: about $302 of payout per dollar at a fair price. The card paid $164. That gap is the venue's margin on 45 legs, and it is the same gap on every favorites combo on the feed.
My Take
I do not doubt a single check mark on that card, and I would not build it. The 9 legs that carried the risk were priced between 72¢ and 79¢ before kickoff, so the exchange already knew those were games; the other 36 turned a 7.5¢ ticket into a 0.33¢ one and handed the quote its markup on every leg. If you want a favorites combo on Kalshi, the number to check is the product of the legs against the price you are quoted, and if the quote is more than about 1.2 times the product, the venue is keeping the rest. The 9-leg version of this card, at a fair quote, was the ticket worth having. Nobody screenshots that one.
